It's real, I've seen the same thing in real life - long in the past. I think the reason it looks strange or unreal to you is that what you are seeing is a cell phone picture of an image that is displayed on a computer screen. Rather like trying to take a picture of something you see on a television screen. The resolutions are so mismatched that it never looks good.
