Question Google shutting down Picasa - what are your alternatives?

Hi all

Google is shutting down Picasa as per: http://googlephotos.blogspot.ch/2016...om-picasa.html

What other desktop programs do you recommend that are:

1) do not auto-manage photo files (like iPhoto how the app moves everything in one photo archive file)
2) simple, not bloated with features - I just need something for simple editing
3) is a desktop app that uploads to google photos

Thanks in advance

I moved to Lightroom, way more powerful than Picasa, but it does allow you to import, sort, organize, and export/publish to Google+/FB/Flickr, etc. I figured Picasa was on its way out, not only due to lack of updates but annoying integration with Web Albumns that begrudgingly worked.

Take a look at Adobe Bridge - https://www.adobe.com/products/bridge.html. I believe it is free and can do things Picasa can.

It's a shame since Picasa was a really nice Desktop tool. I guess most people just upload to Cloud and let Google handle the sorting/organizing/etc.

For me the real loss is Picasa Web Albums. I've been using them for my trip report embedded photos for a long time. Now I have to figure out a new host.

According to the Google link, those with Picasa Web Albums can continue to use it. But there will be no new development.

You can still access the ones that you've already created. But you won't be able to edit or add new albums.

Another vote for Flickr - I've been using it since the beginning without much complaint.

I'm with Flickr too but it seems to be losing the battle, at least for photo storage, to Instagram and Facebook.

You could just try to continue using Picasa even though Google may stop supporting it. Then if they really are dropping support for it then I am sure by popular demand it could come back again.
