Beautiful pictures! Thank you. I've been to Iguassu, but my photos were strictly amateurish!

Nice! I've also been to Iguazu/Iguassu/Iguaçu but my photos were more of the aerial or "look, rainbows" nature. I wish I'd gotten this close to the falls themselves. Ah well, I guess I'll have to go back sometime!

My personal take was that the most challenging thing about photographing Iguazu Falls is the difficulty of getting a photo to reflect the genuinely immense scale of the place. Here is one of what I consider to be my best attempt at it - what I tried to do for scale is to include folks at one of the observation stations within the shot - the tiny little specs on the ledge on the left edge of the shot about 1/4th of the way down from the top is actually a group of about a dozen people on an observation stand:

thanks guys, I agree the scale is difficult to show.
I tried it on the picture with Devils throat. But a close frame
of the waterfall edge shows it too I think...

Awesome. I am hoping to do an Antarctica trip this winter and I have the option of doing a side trip to Iguazu while in EZE. I was a bit wishy-washy about it, but it looks like it'll be worth the jaunt.

I ended up at Iguazu only after I missed my flight in Buenos Aires and had to take a 17 hour (I think it was) bus ride to catch a flight there to Rio. One of those crazy unplanned experiences that ended up being one of the most amazing parts of my trip. Great pics though!

some great shots... i agree, it is very difficult to show the immense size of Iguazu... it's gorgeous and should be experienced, but it should be experienced from both sides when possible..

My favorite from my journey to Igauzu.

How did you protect your gear?

Seems like there would be a lot of mist if you got close to the water?

My understanding is that the Brazil side is for the panoramic shots while on the Argentine side, there are boats that take you right up to the water and there are also catwalks by the water.

On the boats, they give you plastic bags to keep your belongings dry. But that's not going to allow you to shoot much. Maybe best not to take the camera on the boats or avoid the boat trips altogether?

Or spend five bucks for a set of Op-Tech rain sleeves and keep shooting. Why let a little mist interfere with a shot of a lifetime.

OP,
Thanks for sharing. Awesome pix & interesting blog.

I have a few shots from the Brazilian side.

I had plastic sleeve protecting the camera, but its hard to protect the lens as evidenced by watermarks in many shots. At some point, all my lens cleaning clothes were wet!

Great pics. Hope I will be able to get the visa from the Brazilian consulate to visit the next day.

Your camera was getting wet on the boat or just being on the shore nearby?

I guess I may have to worry about the camera bag getting soaked too.

Has anyone who's seen Iguazu also seen Victoria and Niagra falls?

Thanks.

I got wet from the spray when shooting from the wooden platform near the main falls. With the wind blowing, it was like raining horizotally. So protect your gears and cover your backpack. I did not ride on the boat.

Never been to Victoria. Niagara falls are more concentrated in one area, while the Iguazu falls pread out for miles, and there are hundreds of falls.

If I only go to one, I'd pick Iguazu.
