Because my lenses were often better than my pictures I have learned to make peace with cheaper options, but when I had a crop sensor camera, I really, really loved the 10-22 for travel - the Canon 10-22EF-S is so sharp and light, I struggle to imagine how anyone could be disappointed.

The 17-40 f4L is the closest thing in the full frame sensor world and I like that too. (I think the 10-22 EF-S might have been a bit sharper.)

For me, this is THE wide angle lens

Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II f/2.8

Brilliant lens at affordable price.

Wow, I was going to say the 11-20mm f/2.8, but for $399...that's a great price!

That lens is brilliant. I had one for about 18 months and loved it – I only got rid of it because I traded my D7000 for a D750, and sold all my DX lenses.

I've been very happy with the 10-22, but you do pay for the quality. I have/had Tokina and Tamron's in the same focal range but now stick with the Canon.

I really like this lens, even better than my Sigma.
I just find myself not using wide angles as much as I used to.

Thom Hogan has a nice write-up about it:

I had the Canon 10-22 and Tokina 11-16 (1st generation); currently I have the Sigma 8-16. Of the three lenses, the Tokina is sharpest, no doubt. I sold it as it had focusing problem with my then-new 7D Mk I, and I wanted to try the even wider Sigma.

From what I read, the new version for the Tokina optically is the same. But with better lens coating, and will autofocus on Nikon dSLR without the drive gear.
