+1 on both counts.
From the Halszbstya (Fisherman's Bastion), you see a panorama of the Donau and the entire city of Pest. Awesome view!

I'm going to try to hit that area for an upcoming trip. Especially with the Brooklyn Bridge in the foreground.

But I'm also intrigued about taking pics from in the middle of the skyline. For instance:

Only thing is, they may not be sympathetic to people wanting to take up a table or even space for a tripod mainly to take pictures. i would buy a drink or two or even a meal but even then, they may not be interested.

So are there observational decks in some buildings in Manhattan? Empire State Building is obviously for people to take in views but I would want pictures of the EBS in my pics, close by like in those pictures in the link. Plus, EBS may not allow tripods.

Just occurred to me... the OP's question is still unanswered.

I would like to know where to get those night-time skyline pictures too!

Many thanks.

You couldn't look across the harbor without seeing the haze all the time. Such a short distance too.

Apparently it's always like that during winter?
It was like that in late spring for me as well. Couldn't get a single good shot of HK from the peak because of the haze.

In the windy city (Chicago), try to shoot from the museum campus area, both day and night.

Seems most of the taller buildings would be north of Placa Catalunya, which is a long ways from Montjuic.

Is the area safe at night?

+1. Or Navy Pier, North Ave beach, North Ave bridge (on the Kennedy), Lake Michigan boat tours and about a thousand other spots.

Anyone go to the Top of the Rock or the Empire State Building to take pics?

One negative about both places, besides the expense (about $20 each) is that tripods are not allowed.

Cityscape in Bangkok

Best photo-op is from the river. Take the commuter boat and look left on the way north; and verse on the way back.

i've always liked "Top of the Rock" better since you can get great shots of the ESB as well as the Statue of Liberty in the same shot if it's a clear day. also better views of Central Park, St. Patricks, Chrysler Bldg., IMHO. I've always had fewer crowds on TOTR."
