Boarding Area Blog: Man fakes hijacking to avoid vacation with girlfriend
An Indian man wanted to avoid a vacation with his ‘online girlfriend’. His masterplan was a hoax email sent to the police about a possible hijacking in Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. Obviously, it all went horribly wrong for him when the authorities traced his IP address down and arrested him.
Turns out, this man (named by police as Motaparthi Vamshi Krishna, 32 y/o from Hyderabad, India) is married with kids and was involved in an online affair. The girlfriend insisted it was time to take the relationship to the ‘next level’ and wanted a vacation together to Mumbai and Goa (you know, the obvious next step to any online relationship ). Mr. Krishna did not have the finances to support this trip and resisted, however, the girlfriend insisted that they take the tour together. At this point, Mr. Krishna came up with an elaborate plan – He sent his girlfriend a fake ticket from Chennai to Mumbai (the girlfriend was Chennai based), scheduled for 16th April 2017. A day before the scheduled fake flight, on 15th April 2017, he sent a hoax hijacking-plot email to Mumbai police.
In his hoax email, Mr. Krishna claimed that he was a woman and had overheard 6 muslim men talk about a hijacking plan on 16th April 2017, across 3 cities, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai. He assumed that this email would lead to flight cancelations and thus his out from the dreaded vacation plans.
Except, his email triggered a high priority response by the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s office, who informed concerned Airport security authorities and the police departments of related cities. A full scale anti-terror drill was launched at the airports and necessary precautions were underway. The IP address of the email was traced to a cyber cafe in Hyderabad and subsequent cctv footage allowed police to identify Mr. Krishna, who was arrested soon thereafter.

Le sigh. Can't even use an internet cafe in privacy anymore with all these [redacted] cameras. What is the world coming to.
