UA's EWR-ATH: Why the Silence??

United has plans to start Newark to Athens service in May. It was announced on Airlineroute.net as well as internal company news pages. Tickets are also available for sale at united.com as well as many of the main internet travel sites.

What is strange is, after finding out this past Friday, there have been no official public press releases, and no news items on it at all.......not in NYC or ATH newspapers, nor in the industry publications. No mention of it on UA's website, Twitter or Facebook pages.

In an ironic stark contrast, the new SFO-TLV trip, as well as the Xian service, got all kinds of publicity, straight out of the starting blocks. Yet, EWR-ATH, after 3 days, has no press coverage. Why the silence on this? And why the double-standard??

TLV and X'ian were officially announced four days ago - that's why it was reported. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...300156621.html

ATH was announced 87 minutes before your post - http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...300157829.html, as well as in United's Newsroom.

You were expecting it to light up CNN, WSJ, and mainstream new coverage as red-headline breaking news? An airliners.net post doesn't drive reporting.

They're also flying to Barcelona and Lisbon, yet you didn't mention them. Why the double standard?

And what's "ironic"?

In a shocking development, EWR-ATH is now appearing in the press. I guess all it took was, well, actually being announced.
