The Ghost Rider - B-52 to Rise From the Grave to Ride Again

Fun story for anyone who likes military aviation. This plane, which I might add is 54 years old, was stored but will be refurbished to replace a place damaged by fire:

Last Friday, the lumbering jet made its way to the main runway at Davis Monthan AFB, where it powered up and begun its takeoff roll. As those involved with the historic project pensively watched, within about half the runway's length Ghost Rider was airborne. Still, her ferry flight was no regular B-52 sortie. She had to fly below 250kts and 23,000 feet, with her gear down the whole way, for safety reasons.

B-52 "BUFF" first flew in 1955, entered service in 1955; B52Hs (last delivered in 1962) still fly and may fly on into 2040.

Amazing isn't it? They've outlasted numerous planes built after them and will continue to do so.

Boeing hit a home run with the B-52. A marvelous airframe. Older than any of the pilots flying them. BTW, when first tested, it was forbidden to take a photo of the landing gear because it was classified that they were steerable. Also, good to see "BUFF" has not been forgotten, even if it cannot be spelled out on FT.
