We did a 3+ hour ride on Saturday and two phones that we had running it ended up dieing mid way through the ride.
I use my Garmin Forerunner, then upload it to the Strava site. I've considered recording from the Strava app and comparing, but I'm afraid it would kill my iPhone.

Had a really good ride this morning. Just one of those times when everything clicked...I slept well, felt good, had decent weather (for late June in the desert), and most importantly finished in the time I had wanted (had a work meeting).
No, I didn't break a single Strava PR, but I got a couple 2nd's and a 3rd (I must be doing something right when a 2nd for a mile flat sprint is over 22 mph...around 35 miles into a ride).
Seems a bit extreme. Yea, I do use Strava to help motivate me, especially on solo rides. I know where some segments are, and yes I will push some (I did push a couple today). If/when depends where they are in the ride, how far I am from home (don't want to blow my legs in the first 10 miles), tailwinds, etc.
But will I ride recklessly just to get KOM on a segment? I was KOM of this segment briefly: http://app.strava.com/segments/834548
I remember the day I made it...was on my new bike, felt fantastic, had an incredible tailwind--and incredible luck making every green light on that stretch (there's 3 stoplights).
Yea I have gotten pissed a few times when I have had to stop for a red light in there, blowing any chance of getting that KOM back, but I'm certainly not going to run a light over it.
Couldn't run this morning because my oldest had 8th grade promotion. Couldn't run in the evening because we went to see "Wicked". If only my family would plan things so I could exercise at more convenient times.

Talk about a stretch! Is nobody responsible for their own choices? Who doesn't know 40 mph on a bike carries risk? And, I believe it is the law in CA that you can be ticketed for going over the speed limit even if you're peddling.
It is a tragic loss for his family and I feel for them. However, this simply doesn't pass the common sense test...IMHO.

Did my first group ride in ages this morning...it went fairly well. Yes I did get dropped, was on my own for about 5 miles. Thankfully I know the area pretty well and I was just going to ride solo...until I found the group dealing with someone else's flat.
We did Usery Pass, both from Mesa on up, then turned around and back down. And I wasn't the last person to come up the climb
(it was very tempting to say, "maybe if you hadn't killed me on that flat stretch, you might have beat me up that climb," but I'd rather avoid getting punched)
I kept a very low profile, just hung out in the back of the pack. That said, I wore my London Underground jersey (that I just picked up), which was a big conversation starter. Nearly everyone swung by to say Hello and chat with me at some point. And even the super fast guys (who wore kits from some club called, "Faster") were pretty nice, and not as fast as I expected.
I certainly don't expect to do this every day, or even every week. But every once in a while to mix things up would work. When I wasn't struggling to avoid getting dropped, it was far far easier riding in the pack than when I'm riding solo.

Running in heat is no fun. And it is probably more humid there than here in PHX.
What did you think of Wicked?
I saw it in London 2 years ago, then again with the traveling group here in Tempe. I have to say the London performance was much better.
I'm new here. I see a couple of other swimmers. I used to be a competetive swimmer as a kid, but have let things slide in the last 30 years since then. My kids swim competetively 5-6 days a week. 3 weeks ago their team started a Masters program and I was the first to sign up. I've now been joined by 3 other paretns and hoepfully we'll get a few more. I'm trying to swim 3-4 days a week for an hour (the kids go 2 hours, but I'm not up for that yet, if ever) The first week I was miserable, averaging 1500 yards and cramping up in my calves really bad. Slowly getting better. This week I did 4 days and averaged 1800 yards and was able to complete a 200 IM without stopping (it did take me 4:40 for which my kids mocked me mercilously)
Mostly been focusing on getting my technique and getting my stamina and lungs up to par, but I've also apparently dropped 6 pounds, I need to lose about 60 pounds so that's nice!

Great to see another swimmer here!
I've been doing masters swimming since around 1997. For the first few weeks I probably got in as much distance as you, but now I'm able to do a little more...
And that 200 IM, well heck just to finish that (legally) is an accomplishment. My butterfly is horrible; I managed to finish a 100 IM last year (SCM), mostly just as a time filler at a meet. 25m of fly is ok, between the dive and dolphin kicks I only have to do 6 real strokes. But 50m, well you can't fake that (I can't even imagine doing a 200 fly).
Welcome, Vicki! My 3 kids (now grown) were also competitive swimmers, and I've been mocked, too. I only started swimming again 3 years ago, and they've been nothing but supportive, which is great.
I did the 200 IM in practice with my 13 year old timing me, but 99% sure it was legal, she would have told me if it wasn't. Back when I was 12, fly was by far my best stroke. I am not 12 anymore! I am hoping to do some open water swims in awhile when I'm in better shape. My kids are both doing age group events in the ocean at Seal Beach next week and in the bay at Naples Island in August, we'll see how I'm feeling by then.

It probably is a bit more humid here. Of course, I live about 20 miles inland so it's not as heavy as at the beach. Then again, it wasn't 90+ at the beach. My oldest daughter's class had their beach party last Monday at La Jolla. The sun never showed up...until we got about 3 miles east on the drive home. The changes that take place in the micr-climates here are sometimes astounding. A few miles one way or the other can mean a 20+ temperature change.
We really enjoyed the show! Fantastic vocalists, especially Elphaba! My only complaint was that we had some difficulty discerning the lyrics occasionally. That was more of a technical issue...or too many years of ear splitting rock n roll
While looking through the playbill, we noticed a friend was the percussionist. So, we went down and visited with him a bit during the intermission.
My kids, both budding thespians, vocalists and musicians were blown away. The oldest was in Show Choir this year, and the youngest was just selected for next year. It was neat to see their reactions. I missed some of the performance watching my youngest daughter. She was absolutely mesmerized! It was also cool for them to get a peak at the orchestra pit since they are also in the school orchestra.
**Warning: blatant parental bragging about to take place**
My oldest was named outstanding orchestra musician this year. She also received a special award including a cash prize at her 8th grade promotion yesterday. I'm hoping in four years it will be a full-ride rather than summer spending money
Off to PHX tomorrow. I think the only thing I'll be able to do there is swim, although I do hope to fit in a visit to SpoFit (assuming I don't wind up stuck in a cleanroom 12 hours a day).

Where in town will you be?
I'm heading to NYC on Tues for a week, or we could meet. But my swim group always allows visitors. here's the website: http://www.teamunify.com/Home.jsp?team=amsmac
