Med tourism in Costa Rica

Hello all!

I am considering Costa Rica for medical tourism.

Is there a way to avoid Gringo prices? I was quoted outrageous prices from Cima for mri with and without contrast, totalling over $2000. You read that right. I heard prices were more like $200.

I read orthopedics is common in CR. Aint no way people are paying more over than than over here. Im doing something wrong obviously!

Im also getting dental if i go.

Im open to suggestions even if its for other countries. I can always take my gringo $$$ elsewhere.

You don't have US insurance?

There are big differences in training and outcomes in the western world vs. the third world.

CIMA is the top end hospital. I'd certainly contact other hospitals for pricing.

Have you called MRI centers in your home country? I needed an MRI in the US and my doctor gave me a list of places she recommended. I was astonished to find ~$3000 in price variations with just a few calls. In Chicago, a lumbar MRI without contrast was about $600 or $700 when I had it done a year or two ago.
