the Amari Don Muang Airport Hotel www.amari.com a 4 star hotel has a rate of Baht 1099 ($32.00) a night for a superior room without breakfast.If you read the reviews on agoda,most are being up graded to delux.its across the street from the old airport DMK and not far from the nothern bus station.The other Amari hotels have good deals also.

Thanks for the tip. On our list to check out when we arrive later this month. Already emailed me them re 'long term stay' rate as we're looking at Langsuan area service apts and hotels.

Anyone with experience at the original Luxx? Good, great?

You are very welcome dtsm ... I will be in LOS for two weeks this month (July 13-26) mostly in BKK so if you like we can get together for coffee, beer, or some food.

I personally haven't been to the LUXX at any location. This article, however, has combined several reviews of the Luxx Silom into one page, mostly positive:

And a very wise decision indeed to stay at the Langsuan area. Here are some old posts regarding the area. Many FTers (jpatokal & ajc1970 come to mind) know this street very well and might give you some tips:

Anyone tried the Marriott Mayfair (Exec Apartments)?

Thanon Lang Suan is situated between Phloen Chit (Central Dept. Store and Chitlom BTS Station) and Sarasin road (Lumpini Park) becoming Chitlom Rd. north of Phloen Chit. It is also close to Ratchadamri BTS station (according to ajc1970). Lang Suan is the last best-kept secret in Bangkok as the street is very pleasant with not as much traffic, gridlock, or pollution as the rest of Bangkok because it is a one-way street.

Plenty of restaurants on this street. One is Nugan Lee's Restaurant, which is one of my favorites in Bangkok, is at the end of the street, the corner of Langsuan & Sarasin. There is another great restaurant (albeit a different cuisine) called Amber on the east side of the street. I highly recommend both places. Also, there is a Villa Market right next door to the Marriott Mayfair if you wanted to shop groceries.

REMEMBER NOK AIR DEPARTS FROM DMK, DON MEUNG AIRPORT, NOT BKK

Nok Air's latest promotion is good one. It appears at first that the fare is Zero, but hidden deeper is what looks to be further 335 discount, making the base fare -335 THB adding NOK AIR's excessive fees and fuel surcharges does indeed bring the price down to 888THB total.

FWIW, mrs and I paid a visit this morning - we usually like boutique hotels but strongly suggest waiting on this one. Pretty empty, facilities very disappointing, would consider 2 star level (yes, 2 **).

For same rate, you can get Grande Centrepoint Ratchadamiri location, their smallest room which is close to 40 sqm, includes small kitchen, large bathroom and lovely views of Sports Club or Four Seasons pool!
