Yes, yes and yes.

Try to get a card that doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee.

Like most Chase cards. You might as well pick up some miles/points as well. Check 'the Frugal Travel Guy' &/or 'the Points Guy' for the best deals out there right now.

Whichever logo you use, definitely be sure to take one with no forex fees. Assuming you're USA-based, check this thread for options if you don't already have such a card:

Have fun!

Visiting Thailand in Jan, do most places (shops and restaurants) accept credit cards? I know that i will need to use cash at markets, but would prefer to use cc when i can.

Most places accept CC. But many (most?) small shops and gold shops will charge you a 3% surcharge for using a CC because that's what they pay for accepting it. Supposedly against CC company rules, but it doesn't matter. They charge it anyway.

To add some further info, acceptance of credit cards will also decrease as you move out of the large cities / tourist areas.

I would not expect small restaurants or shops to accept them. Also, the convenience stores (7-11, Family Mart) which are everywhere in Thailand do not accept credit cards.
