JFK-BKK is that flight cancelled??

I am trying to book nine people on the JFK-BKK flight on August 22 return August 31. I have not been able to book on the website since Wednesday and seatcounter.com shows all the flights in late August sold out. Have they cancelled this flight??? If anyone knows anything please let me know. THANKS!

Hi, sorry I read not asvailable as to be booked out, never thought about cancellation of the flight. What have you been able to find out, RICflyer, unfortunately unable to find out anything from this end for 24hrs and also have bookings which will need redoing. Pilot mates have been telling me the long hauls will be the first to go as the cost of burning fuel to carrying fuel is not viable nowadays as it's cheaper to use refueling stops. TG have been complaining for some time about how thirsty the 345 is, appears that TG are getting serious about it too, not the first Asian airline to drastically cut flights in the last 7 days, regards bkkrop

The news is that TG is seriously considering canceling the flight due to heavy loss. No official announcement has been made yet so this can change.

Hi All, I was just told by my source inside TG headquater that from 1 Jul onwards, TG will stop flying to JFK due the heavy fuel cost and some other reasons. However the LAX flight will be retained with a different type of aircrafts.

I just phone TG office in Bangkok @ 5.00pm June 1st.

The flight is over at the end of the month confirmed 100%

So the next question is how will TG deal with its paid ticketed pacs?

What if you have stared the first have of your return ticket? (this could be a real problem for some people with connections or hotel bookings and so on)

Cheers

In order to accomodate ticketed JFK pax TG might have to alter the LAX schedule in order to allow for same-day red-eye connections on UA for LAX-JFK?

There is going to be people not happy about this thats for sure. The LAX - BKK route will most likely by adjusted like the last poster said. But what about the people who paid for this premium flight, say if I paid for PE class will TG put me on UA C class to LAX, UA PE class does not compare to TG PE class in anyway.

Sigh
I had been having trouble all week trying to book this flight and feared that bad news was in the offing. I loved this flight and it's premium economy. With the death of SQ's executive economy flight from Newark and now this, I am bereft. (And kicking myself for having transferred 20,000 Starwoods miles to ROP last month!!) Not many options left.

Well LAX is still an option for now with TG for a non stop to BKK but that flight from JFK is (was) really great for people on the east side of North America and the PE class was such a good deal. I have taken this flight a few times in Royal Silk and twice in PE and every time it was a full house on the plane. They should have raised the fare 25% or more I am sure people would pay it, PE class would still be a great deal I think and I would still pay it.

Anyone willing to make a guess on the future of those A340-500 planes?

I too was trying to book a JFK>BKK>JFK itinerary for this fall, and feared cancellation might be in the offing for this flight due to it being zero'd out on all fare buckets after July 1.

Someone made an analysis here last month, pointing out the impracticality of adding a stop on the JFK flight, because (realistically) it is (many times) a trans-atlantic flight to BKK, and a trans-pacific flight to JFK (taking advantage of tail winds.)

As for the LAX flight, talk previously in the newspaper (both this year and last year) about adding a stop maybe in Japan, Korea, or China is curious. The remarks have been stated as though there was a load problem that would be solved by the ability to pick up more passengers at an intermediate stopping point, but I think both these routes have been doing okay on their loads? The problem really appears to be one with the costs of operating an ultra-long-haul route. Perhaps a technical stop makes sense, avoiding the long stage lengths and inefficiency of carrying fuel such long distances?

Anybody know the reason THAI has failed to publically announce this route (cancellation? suspension?) You'd think at least on the USA website they would be saying something.

As for the future of the A340-500s, that would be interesting as well. A recent posting said the LAX flight would be done with a stop and another aircraft type, but they still show the A345's nonstop to and from LAX into next winter. so it looks like they would have two A345s to redeploy somewhere.

My biggest concern is that if THAI changes aircraft on it's North America routes, the replacement will not offer Premium Economy, something desperately needed for the total travel times involved between North America and BKK, whether it is nonstop or including a stop.
