Why dont you take a Virgin Atlantic flight, from JFK, in their Premium Economy class to London Heathrow and then try getting the the upper level seats on Singapore Airlines' A380 leaving from Heathrow (now twice daily)...but then of course you have a brief 2 hour flight from singapore to bangkok afterwards
I know 3 legs could never make up for 1 complete leg..
I just spoke with Thai reservations in Thailand. The agent told me that there will be another board meeting on June 10th to decide how to handle the situation with ticketed passengers. They will decide on refund and re-booking policies. After that meeting, they will send out instructions to the USA offices.
I guess we have to wait until then. Just for your FYI.

I wonder what the 'knock-on' effects will be...NZ is served only 5x a week with 777-200ER, as are Australian destinations (MEL/BNE daily, SYD twice daily). Where will the 5x a week 777-200ER be taken from I wonder?
Do you think one of the options will be to just get a full refund? I live in Chicago and the only reason we were flying out of JFK was because it was non stop. I would just like to rebook out of Chicago and be done with it. I am afraid to book another set of flights incase they refuse a refund and only allow passengers to reschedule? They also told me a refund to a credit card would take 60-90 days!
777-200ER has the same (or very close to) modern C seat as as A340-500.
And what about Premium Economy seats? Ticketed on LAX-BKK. While I'm not looking forward to a fuel stop on my return (ex-LAX on June 8) it's a lesser concern than the PE seats.

Any thoughts?
It is a very tough decision to make at the moment. I am going to wait because I want to take my trip anyway. It seems like they are undecided about offering refunds or re-accommodation at this point. I am not sure if they will allow both. According to their explanations, it seems that they will try and rebook you and if the schedule doesn't work they will offer a refund possibility. They are not required, according to the Warsaw Convention as I interpret it and I am not a lawyer, to refund you the ticket if they get you to your destination even if on a different carrier.

You absolutely can get a refund; see the excerpt from Thai's condition of contract that I quoted in reply #87 in this thread.

Any word yet on which days will be dropped for the LAX-BKK flight? Also, if they switch to a 777-200, there are half as many C seats. If I have already booked award seats in C using my UA miles for a late November LAX-BKK departure, should I assume I'm safe, so long as my day of the week is still in operation? Or might I also be in danger of a drop to Y?
I'm not wanting to panic yet, but TG already screwed me by failing to confirm the return BKK-LAX after UA booked it (and refused to budge despite repeated requests from the UA office in Bangkok), so I eventually had to switch to an OZ routing via ICN for that segment. I'd rather figure out another decent C option now than be stuck in TG Y or on UA metal.

Only the a340-500 has 'real PE' seats. Older 747-400 are used to Scandinavian destinations using the old C seat for PE, and the old F seat for C. But I digress...
The 777-200, and 777-200ER have only 30 C seats - don't worry about the 777-300, it won't be used I'm sure (range problems I's guess) - and is, in any case, undergoing a seat upgrade to the 'shell' seats, albeit slowly.
What we down-under have suffered from is reduction in C seats and loss of F eg for New Zealand, BKK-AKL 60 C on 346 down to 30 C on 772ER. Similar probs with Australian cities with 747 replaced by 777-200 and 777-200ER (MEL/BNE).
