I am flying CDG-BKK TG931 and the HKG on Jan 24. I noticed that TG is scheduling the old 747 (14 seats). I called TG office in paris to complain and they answered that this substitution is happening quite often out of CDG! I will change my date and pray!
Yes as this is a less premium route they put older 744s here rather than lhr or fra as was my experience when i flew this route on the old 744 in f on my way to syd this year

I flew BKK-CDG-BKK six times in 2007, and everytime it was the new F class.
You are really unlucky.
not to put a damper on your complaint but the planes that fly on routes are subjected to change
What? Seriously? You mean you can point a Aircraft in any direction and make it fly there? I never knew that.... Thought there were programmed to fly one set route only. That makes life so much easier
Seriously though, the point that we are making is that you pick a airline on a certain route for the product that it is offering. If they offer a product on 99% of their flights I would feel cheated if I didn't get it on the flight that I was booked on.

I flew CDG-BKK-SYD 5 times in 2007 and I had the new config on every flight with all seat sold. CDG gets old 747 very randomly I would say, up to now though!
It's not happening that frequently. But TG can't guarantee that it's not going to happen. They have limited number of aircrafts with new C and F and if one of them goes tech, they must do their best and substitute the aircraft that is available at the time. As many other posters mentioned, when that happen, they will give priority to premium route thus FCO, MAD, CDG sometimes get old config.

Actually the old F-class is not bad IMO. Flew BKK-FRA several times last year and ended up twice in the old F due to last minute changes. "Sorry, airplane broken". Nevertheless, I was satisfied even with the old F.

I strongly disagree: The old F seat might be horizontal, but is very very narrow. This is by far the most uncomfortable F seat I know. I always would prefer SQ's new C over TG's old F.
TG knows very well how inferior this product is. Otherwise, they wouldn't sell it as C in some markets, like CPH and ARN.

This is very personal and depends how "big" you are really . As a skinny Chinese I wouldn't mind the B7442 F if the loading is light. Say you have 2-4 pax in F on the B7442 including yourself for a 10+ hr flight. You can read, sleep, work, watch something on your laptop, have privacy etc. Not a problem for me.
However if F is completely full (and that is often the case for CPH and ARN as you mentioned in the nose) then obviously I prefer a single seat on the B7443.
Also the old F seats on the B7442 (or even the older B7441)- they are so soft and comfortable compare to the newer generation of TG's F or C seats or even SQ's spacebed you mentioned (not the new new ones on the A380but only ones on the Megatop).

Unlucky?
I checked eight days around my departure date. TG flies the old 747 on Jan 19, 22, 24 and 26. 50% is more than unlucky.
Neither do I buy the "premium route" argument mentioned by jtokt. Tickets out of CDG are significantly more expensive than out of FRA and the premium cabins are often/usually full (and not by upgrades). They used to operate a second flight our of CDG and dropped it, but the only one is often full in F & C.
Actually I talked at length with a staff at TG office in Paris and she believed that the high load is one reason why CDG gets the old planes. Remember that they offer many more F and C seats than the new planes (e.g. 14 F seats instead of 10). Unsurprisingly there are already more than 10 F pax assigned seats on all the flights that are operated by the old 747, while the flights still scheduled on the new 744 have less than 10 seats assigned according to Expertflyer seat maps. This is very disturbing as it could mean a last minute substitution if they get many late bookings in F or C. It's only a guess but an unpleasant one.

Bruno, I fully understand your frustration and sympathize.
Since TG seems to have no intention of ever retrofitting the old 747's , such last minute, or planned, substitution will continue for a long time.

Thanks Pansteed00 I had decided to return to TG believing that they had put their act together but I think that I will now use some more reliable alternatives, even if a bit more expensive .
