TG 944 aircraft

Hi, I can't seem to figure out what aircraft TG is using for their BKK-FCO route. I think it has been 777 in the past, which expertflyer indicates is currently still in service. But flightaware and other sites indicate it is a A350-941.

Curious because I'm considering flying TG944 in June but have read reports that the 777 business class product is pretty threadbare. However, I assume A350 business is better. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Here's the most recent info from Airlineroute.net (now routesonline.com) from 21 Dec 2015:

THAI has reversed it plans to cancel Bangkok – Rome service, as the Star Alliance member re-opened reservations for flights on/after 01FEB16. From 01FEB16, service will operate 4 times a week, with Boeing 777-200ER.

TG944 BKK0001 – 0555FCO 777 x246
TG945 FCO1330 – 0605+1BKK 777 x246

Can't seem to find anything more recent about that route and the possible equipment change.

It seems like they may have JUST started flying the A350 on this route in the last month or two. I can't find any articles stating this.

Planefinder.net says the plane was delivered to BKK on 30-8-2016. The mystery deepens!

as TG did not get permission yet to fly with the two new A350 already delivered to Australia, they use it for the next couple of months (at least) for the two routes to Italy (Rome and Milan), 3-4 times a week.
and yes A350 have full flat seats in J, while 777-200ER, as well as 747 (that they also used for Rome in the past) have just angle flat seats in J

From TG news sent to agencies in Thailand, TG will use A350 to Rome and Milan starting from 16 Nov 2016 until 25 Mar 2017 and to Singapore on selected flights until 28 Feb 2017.

Link from Thai webboard.

Thanks for the great info. Was excited at the possibility of flying this route on the A350, but less excited about the older product, which I assume will be back in service on the route when I fly in June. Oh well, lots of decent cash options to Europe from BKK and I'm sure the 777 J seats aren't completely terrible. However coughing up 170K UR for a possibly subpar experience just makes me really anxious. If anyone has flown this route in J on the 777, I'd love to hear your input. I've poked around the TG long haul thread and reviews are mixed to say the least, with no details on this specific route that i found. Anyway, thanks again for the good input, y'all!

You can go directly to the Thai website and make a sample booking for the dates you want to fly.

If it shows A359 you're good to go. If it shows 777-300 this is also flat beds. If it shows 772/773 it means angled beds, which aren't good.

Oh duh! Thanks, I should have tried that from the start. When playing with the TG site, I see that the route switches from A359 to 777-200 sometime late next March. I'd be inclined to fly if it actually IS lie-flat, but I found the following review which indicates that the seats aren't that great on the 777-200

https://www.travelcodex.com/2015/01/...k-to-auckland/

Anyway, on the fence about this, but I do appreciate the help since it answered my question about the aircraft. Cheers!

The 772 angled lie flats are 2nd or 3rd generation now - and not even really full flat - they have a recline of about 167 degrees or something. If you sleep on your back they are just about passable, but side or front sleepers will have difficulty. The pictures in the link you provided are accurate in terms of what you'll get.

772's angled flat seats are certainly not what you want on a long haul flight in J. But at least the food service has now improved in comparison with the report indicated in the link

The 772 "angle flat" seats are horrible, no chance of a sleep. The aircraft used on the BKK AKL are very threadbare now.

Good news is THAI board has approved the project to retrofit the 6 B777-200ER which are used for long haul routes with full flat beds in Royal Silk Class.

The board also approved the project to replace seats on 3 A330-300. I suspect that this is not an upgrade but rather to replace the Koito economy class seats that were equipped on HS-TEN, HS-TEO, and HS-TEP before the manufacturer was caught falsifying test data and then forced to shut down.

Maybe putting some Premium Economy in there would be nice!
