GUP: Which fare bucket(s) determine Y to C GUP availability?
Hi there,
I'm looking to use one of my available GUP upgrades. The availability for one of the flights in question is:
F1 A1 P1 C7 D5 J1 Z0 Y3 B2 M0 H0 Q0 T0 K0 S0 V0 W0
So while eco looks sold out, C-Class has some availability (albeit at the higher end). While award class Z is out. Do GUPs only go through if there is availability in Z?
Cheers,
dinbangkok

In answer to my own question...
I asked Thai and learned that if there's availability in J, then you're in with a chance of GUP.

TG offices only sells F A P O C D J I Y B M H Q G V W X, the rest I don't know where does that comes from. The availability of GUP is depending on J-Class fare (and P-Class in First)
During this new year, TG blocks all J-Class outbound BKK-LHR from 2-7 January 2017 and this extremely annoys me as I need to use my gold upgrade (I need to be as comfortable as I can before my January exams).

1. Go to the front page.
2. Select your route, date, and Business/First class option
3. On the booking page, select your fare (often called Royal Silk Saver Advantage if not select anything with lowest price for Business Class)
4. IMPORTANT: Click on FARE BASIS INFORMATION (last grey) button, look for fare basis code on the table.
5. BOTH flights (if round-trip booked) must have fare basis beginning with "J", such as "JRLE6THE". Not "C" or "D".
6. Look at the column of the fare you have selected (that shows J as the first letter), see what it tells you how many seats left, and there are 2 cases.
6.1 If there is nothing written: 9 or more seats left.
6.2 Something is written there: it will tell you how many seat left (less than 9) for that fare.

release of J for GUP?
I'll regain ROP*G in a few days, and plan to use my GUP in Feb ICN-BKK-AKL return. However, I see on EF that most J class is already gone for BKK-AKL :-(. either side of core travel dates.
Has anybody had any experience in asking TG to release a J seat for GUP? I have Econ (Q) class already booked.
Cheers, TK

Why not give them a call? Last time I did a GUP on LHR-BKK-HAN, the London TG office told me there was no availability on BKK-HAN and would I happy to be waitlisted. So I said yes, then the waitlist cleared a few days later and I got re ticketed for J throughout.
The necessary flight has posted overnight and my account notes that '0' miles are needed for the next status. I'd hoped that the status change would occur immediately once the miles posted and this would trigger a review of status, but nothing as yet. Not sure if a person is involved....
My intended flights are about 6 weeks away, are a 12 hours long haul, and are showing C9D0J0Z0 on the core date. Nearby dates are only a touch better:
D-1 C7D3J0Z0
D-2 C9D2J0Z0
D-4 C9D8J5Z0
Anyway, thanks for the response. TK

Oh, I intend to. Just waiting for the status change to occur.

Guess I'd have to wait for my 24-month period to restart in Feb before the GUP and 5000 mile bonus are activated?

Thai-Kiwi, what happened in the end? When did the new GUP kick in for you? I have found myself in a somewhat similar situation, my 24-month Gold qualification period ends in exactly 1 month and I've just requalified as of Sunday. My activity statement does now say I have been renewed but Gold Award Eligibility still says "All complimentary upgrades have been used".

I emailed ROP office to confirm the 50% birthday award is also available in 2017 - it is. Plan is for me to use my GUP on ICN-Europe with Mrs TK on a 50% biz award. Just need to find a spot in the year when we can travel...
