TG fare increase

heard from my travel agent that TG increase fares for J by 10-15% on 1. May
anyone know more details? That's quite a hike given the low fuel costs.

If it turns out to be true, it would amount to commercial suicide by TG .
What could possibly justify such a price increase in an era of global deflation ?

Perhaps they are predicting a pending baht devaluation.

Seriously- I agree with @Lament... suicide. I rarely find their long haul fare competitive as is. Any increase just moves them further down my list unless they automagically increase service levels or offer non-stop service to NYC/LAX.

The Thai way of thinking: If No. of pax go down, revenue per pax needs to go up...

I saw a topic on Thai webboard (pantip.com) that TG does not charge fuel surcharge anymore starting from today (1 May). So, I think that the increased fare price is related to the fuel surcharge removal.

No change as yet according to comparison of paid ticket for Dec with a dummy booking just now. Looking at ICN-BKK-ICN.

On a route that I follow, TPE-BKK vv., I have not seen any price increase, in either Y or C. I was surprised to see one of the evening flights later this month is sold out in C. Business must be good. I find on this route, TG less expensive compared to BR.

Well BA is calling theirs "carrier surcharge" rather than "fuel surcharge".

Example: I used BA miles to upgrade a BA C ticket to F this week. Ticket booked 6 Months ago. Guess what? I had to pay extra as BA claims that the "carrier surcharge has gone up since I booked". How crazy is that???

Added to my previous post, the fuel surcharge removal is only apply to award tickets. Now, award ticket for BKK-NRT is approx. 1,600 THB.

Wow, if the same will apply for awards on TG metal booked with SK Eurobonus or LH M&M this would be really great. SK Eurobonus does not charge fuel surcharges on their own metal and now if TG does not apply fuel charges either, there should be a chance that tix booked with SK Eurobonus on TG metal will be without fuel surcharges. Let us wait and see; I'm sure someone will soon update us on this.

Wait, so have they removed all fuel surcharges on TG metal? This would be a massive improvement and make their miles a whole lot more valuable.

Yes, but not like last year when BKK-LHR J Class RTN costs around ~THB170000 (that's f****** expensive).
