I think meaning that separate PNRs means greater chance the party will be well and truly split up in the event of an aircraft change. One one PNR they might at least be seated close by.

I am guessing that there is a party of people on different PNRs? Please be advised, that seat pre-selection is just that. Can be changed by the operating carrier at any time (as has been my experience) and you cannot do anything about it, particularly if on different PNRs.
If on the one PNR generally airlines keep people together. When split they can more often place you anywhere in the cabin.

Exactly this. Especially relevant when equipment changes to this extent.

TG open the booking on BKK-CNX as below.

Thai Airways A350-900

Test Flight : Route BKK - CNX on 4 Sep 2016 - 15 Sep 2016 ( TG 102/103 , TG 110/111 )

So, the BKK-MEL route should be on schedule.

For me the big question is whether MEL keeps the A350 late Jan to early Feb. The suspense is killing me

Earlier today, I was doing M&M redemption MEL-XXX-LHR||LHR-BSL||MUC-XXX-MEL for May/June for myself and Mrs, and one of the options LH offered was MEL-BKK-LHR with the MEL-BKK on A350. At the end I went for both outbound and inbound on SQ (still think SQ's business class is superior to TG plus timing was better too), but this indicates that A350 seems to be there to stay - at least at this moment.

There was talk of moving the A350 to the "lucrative" Scandinavian routes in the winter but hopefully nothing's cast in stone yet.

The flight times would seem to be against this - ~11.5 hours. With 2 aircraft they get 2 return flights a day to MEL, but only 1.5 to CPH.

Nothing would surprise me with Thai. I wouldn't care if they did this as long as they put the current 300ER's on the Scandinavian routes to Melbourne!

In saying that with only 2 A350's it makes more sense to just have them rotating on an easy 1 aircraft per 24 hour rotation route which they can't do to Europe.

They sure pulled this outta nowhere Having said that I expect the record of completed flights to be at least somewhat more reliable.
