Being replaced this year and next with the 777.
TG has the Dreamliner on orders and the (delayed) A350. But goes SA have anything in the queue that's going to come online and replace their 340s?

February 15, 2016 5:32 pm

Thai Airways International’s performance has shown signs of improvement, suggesting that the worst is over at the national carrier and it is ready to bounce back, said Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripituk.

He made the remark after he and Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong visited THAI headquarters Monday as part of a follow-up on the performances of state enterprises under the Finance Ministry.

Thai Airways to return to profitability next month.

Oh. Is that for ThaiAirAsia a "fire sale" or a "life insurance"?

original quote from the first article: "But informally telephone calls were made to several newspapers saying the Thai AirAsia purchase idea of Mr Somkid's at the meeting was meant to be a joke."

and this joke made the share price increasing over 45%!

Interesting that it's the THAI shares which increased. I wonder what happened to the Thai Air Asia price?

I think THAI popped because of the 'pre-announcement' of the Q4 numbers (formal presentation on Monday). It's not for nothing that the SET is commonly referred to as "the murkiest market in Asia".

Missed this Op-ed piece from earlier in the week, some interesting figures...

Chance of a THAI turnaround: Fat or slim?

Thai Airways International must have done something right lately: its share price rallied last week.

On the day that Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong paid a visit to its headquarters, THAI stock gained 4.35 per cent. A day later, the price went up 20.24 per cent to Bt10.10, a level unseen in months. That day also saw over 700,000 THAI shares change hands - also unseen in months.

During his visit, Somkid expressed confidence that the national carrier would turn around, suggesting that the worst was over. But boosting investor confidence must be the notion of THAI executive vice president for commercial Teerapol Chotithanapibal, who said that next month the carrier would announce a step-by-step cut in its fuel surcharge as part of an aim to bring it to zero.
