TG 747 Business/Royal Silk Seats--how bad?

Hi all!

I am flying EWR/JFK-BKK. I am flying on a United awards ticket and have two choices:

JFK-MUC-BKK: Luftansa new business seat / Thai old 747 seat

EWR-NRT-BKK: United new business seat / Thai lay-flat A380-330 seat

The MUC route is much more convenient to me, and I'd love to try Lufthansa business, but I dread the old Thai 747 "angled" lie down seats.

Does anyone have an opinion on Thai's 747 Business/Royal Silk seats?

Thanks!

You should find plenty of opinions here!

The 747 that should be flying this route has a more recent angled seat that I've not flown on TG but have on other carriers. I find it very peculiar but can get comfortable after some wrangling.

But on TG there's always the chance of equipment substitution. The other 747 has truly awful C seats: narrow & badly worn.

Can you get a quick connection from MUC to BRU or other TG destination where they fly 777-300ER? Then you'd get a truly flat seat.

yes there are many opinions and they also differ!
I do not think that there is a big difference between the business class seats on the two different type of 747 of TG. There are even people who prefer the older type as it is better movable and more flat.
a good overview about the two seats is given here:
https://www.thaiairways.com/thai-ser...s-services.htm
TG has 12 747, 6 each for both types
Of course a full flat seat and a angled seat are for the purpose of sleeping worlds apart. But I still manage to sleep 6+ hours in a angled flat seat while others can not even sleep in a full flat seat

A380 all the way. Older 747 business seat is better for sleeping.

Thanks all!

I also of course run the threat of the A380 being switched out to a 747 in NRT....

Decisions, decisions.

I urged you not to take the 747.

probably more likely that the NRT a/c changes to the 787.
