There's still J and Y award seats on the inaugural BKK-PER 787 on July 1st available.
I snagged one as soon as I saw the AusBT article but admittedly I live in Perth so it's not really out of my way.

Not trying very hard... there is TONS of availability, through October every single flight each direction has at least one seat available in first class.
I just booked BKK-HND on October 2nd in first class on TG682 (22:45 - 06:55 +1).
Anybody have any idea what will happen if I have an F seat booked and they don't get deliveries of the planes with first class?

It's not like TG can start putting F seats into planes willy-nilly- this is the sort of thing you plan well in advanced, and I don't think their 787s have F. I would guess that F availability is totally bogus.

While I agree that Thai will not care what type of mileage they have charged me, if they TICKET me in First Class then they have accepted payment for a F ticket, not J, despite what the aircraft might be. On their website they show it as a 747 and I have selected a seat in F on that flight. I can't see how moving forward should they change the aircraft to one without F, that would be anything but a downgrade...

Interesting update for sure. I booked one seat in F on TG682 on Monday and the aircraft type was listed as a 787. Several people correctly posted that the 787 would not have F and it was an error.
However, both my Aeroplan reward ticket and the Thai website listed as 747, not a 787 for TG682. It looks like they swapped the equipment between TG640 and TG682 moving forwards BEFORE Monday but the ANA website that I use to verify availability had the old plane information.
This is the updated info from this morning, which correctly shows that First class is not offered on the 787 flight (the "-" rather than "x" which denotes possible but no space). I'm a pretty happy camper though as I managed to get F space leaving BKK on the day I needed and can now take advantage of the massage before flight. However... every Thai flight on a 747 on their website is listed as a "747-400" and this one flight that was listed as a 787 is now listed as "Boeing 747 All Series Passenger" which makes me wonder if it's some sort of default and not correct...
Cheers,
Mark

747-400 = older 10F cabin
747 All Series Passenger = new 9F cabin

THAI on 27FEB14 opened reservation for Boeing 787 flight.
http://airlineroute.net/2014/02/27/tg-787-jul14update2/
The 787 will operate to Tokyo Narita, instead of planned Haneda from 01AUG14. The configuration of 787 is C24 (2-2-2) Y240 (3-3-3).
Perth remains on track to start from 01JUL14, but this is TG, therefore more changes can't be ruled out.
One more reminder, Award Booking inventory isn't always 100% correct.

hmm i'm on a O ticket from NRT-BKK-CDG but now my NRT-BKK leg is biz on the 787. I'm curious enough about flying the 787 to fly J. What would you guys do? Switch to a F 747 or J 787?

So is it safe to assume that these will be non-flat regional seats in J.
I can change to this flight from SQ PER-SIN - but would it be worth it?
