Melbourne to get 777-300ER

Good news, Melbourne is to get the 777-300ER come the end of March. Flat beds in J! Only on 461/462, 465/466 still 777-200ER.

Only annoying thing is that my seat selection has been shot to bits. Traveling as a couple on separate PNRs and we're put in aisles in singles at opposite ends of the cabin.

Any ideas on best J seat on the 300ER? Front vs rear cabin? Does the plane board/deplane from 1L or 2L?

All of row 11 in J is empty, and I am tempted to book it to be in front, but since noone else has booked it i'm kinda skeptical. Thoughts?

I wouldn't go the front row due to disturbances from the galley and toilets. I always aim mid cabin generally for these reasons.

I was in 11B last week from CPH. Very little noice from the huge front galley. Toilet is in front of the galley so no disturbance at all.

What a lovely plane/flight (food disappointing though)

Board/deplane from 2L. However, for this weeks HKT-BKK flight on 777-300ER with remote parking at BKK (really remote!), 1L was used.

I booked my first Thai flight on TG 665 (PVG-BKK) in coach, which was on an actual 77W, walked thru C class to get to my seat, loved the layout and couldn't wait for my BKK-MEL the next morning.

Unfortunately I got TGed on 461, downgauged to a regular 773.

IMO, shouldn't the day flight get angle flat and the night flight get the lie flats?

Melbourne to get 777-300ER

The night flight from MEL-BKK gets the 777-300ER with flat beds currently, which means the return flight BKK-MEL using the same aircraft is the day flight from Bangkok. Unfortunately this means the night flight from Bangkok and day flight from Melbourne is still the angled seats on the 777-200ER generally.

I also got TG'ed to 773 on 461 last month. As did those flying the day before. And those the day before that.

What a kerfuffle it created on board...I have never seen so much seat shifting once on board in the full cabin. My partner and I, on the same PNR were literally thrown at the seat map...with me being in 15K and them in the hideous 12E. We got to the airport early and managed to get 16AB instead. There were a lot of unhappy pax and frazzled ground staff on board trying to make it work.

I don't know where all the passengers intended for the J cabin in the 77W went because I think it was showing pretty much full up until the aircraft swap (which happened about 2 days before). Unless they undersold with the possibility of aircraft swap.

Not sure how common the TG'ing is - feel quite unlucky as we got the last day in a 3 day block of swaps and as far as I can see from flightradar it was been operated by 77W every time since.

At least 461 is a day flight, much worse sub for those on the corresponding 462. It is amazing how fast airlines such as SQ roll out their seat renewal programs compared to others. There also doesn't seem to be anything in the wind that they might retrofit their other 777's with a similar business seat to reduce the likelihood of subs.

Got TG'ed earlier this month when 461 Sunday midnight was cancelled and I ended up on 462 Monday morning. Made up for it somewhat by being the newest 777-300ER in the fleet, HS-TKU, delivered in January. All shiny. Felt sorry for the nice new carpet when the pax opposite me up-ended the entire contents of his meal tray onto it.

I have booked two business class tickets on 1st January 2015. On my itinerary the flight number is TG462 and when I go to select my seats, it is still showing the 2-2-2 config instead of the 777-300er config which is 1-2-1. Does this mean I am getting the 777-200 or will it be changed.

The current 777-300ER schedule was only loaded for the summer timetable to end(ish) of October. You can reasonably expect that TG461 and TG462 will continue to be operated by 777-300ER after October 2014...but you just never know.

Bolded by me. You would have reasonably thought that the LAX route would have kept the 777-300ER due to the length of the flight. You would also have reasonably thought that you wouldn't offer this product as a premium economy product on the scandinavian routes and rather use planes with the angled seats (but not possible due to all seats being in the one cabin I am guessing).

Reasonable doesn't necessarily always enter the Thai way of thinking.
