I am flying from ICN to BKK in business class. The flight departs at 9:25PM and arrives at BKK at 1:15 am. It's a bit late for dinner but it is nearly a six hour trip. Is a full dinner served on this flight?
Yes, full dinner is served soon after takeoff. I was on that flight last week and had the grilled chicken breast which was good. I'm getting ready to board the same flight again in about 30 minutes so don't know if the menu will be changed from last week or not, being it's now a new month. The guy next to me ordered the bibimbap (a Korean dish of mixed vegetables, beef, and rice), which is normally good, but TG's version is quite strange, especially being they serve it in a standard shallow airline food dish, rather than a tall dish designed for mixing the contents. The bibimbap entree was exactly the same as what was served in economy. One of the other options was shrimp something or other, which I didn't see, and a fourth item was I believe another choice from economy, but forgot what it was. I'll try to save the menu tonight and post it tomorrow for you.
Thanks for the info. If you have a chance to post the menu that would be great. As you know from my other post in the OZ forum, I guess I will have already enjoyed four courses from PVG to ICN on OZ. Not sure how hungry I will be for this flight, or whether one of these two segments is better in terms of food. Let me know what you think.
The first two selections from the Main Course are original business class meals. The last two are economy class meals.
If you want to order Bibimbap, have it on your OZ flight. OZ Bibimbap is way better than TG's. Also I recently had OZ's beef tenderloin steak, which I thought was quite excellent. If you're a beef eater and feel like a steak, I'd opt for that over any TG meal.

I'm doing the same trip in J but from BKK to ICN in a few weeks. It's on flight TG634 which stops off at Taipei on the way so the flight is nearly 7 hours. I've never flown Thai so will be interested to see what the service is like.
I taken that flight the "other way", and recall that two full meals were served, one on each segment. There may have been only two or three choices of mains, however. This was about a year ago, though, and was travelling to holidays with a friend in a very empty upper deck on the first segment, so probably had too much champagne to remember all the details!
Are you sure this was BKK-TPE-ICN? I ask because I've never seen a B747 on that route. It's normally a B777-300, when I've checked, though a B777-200 or A330-300 wouldn't be out of the question. There was a brief period a while ago when they stuck a A340-600 on that route, but that was only temporary. TG also flies BKK-HKG-TPE, and they definitely do fly 747's on that route.
Regarding the meals, sad to say I can't remember exactly. Must be the onset of Alzheimer's. Actually I think they probably serve breakfast on the first route, being it departs at 0700. I couldn't see them serving lunch that early. Being I'm not a breakfast person, I guess that must be why I couldn't remember - fell asleep before the meal was served. I vaguely remember a choice of omelet or Chinese noodles, but I could be confusing it with a different flight. I don't think the breakfast is really a full course. On the TPE-ICN portion you'll definitely get the normal C meal, though can't remember if there's 2, 3, or 4 choices.
Normally I avoid this flight if flying BKK-ICN because
A) It's more convenient for me to leave the night before on the direct flight, unless I have an early morning arrival at BKK and connecting to ICN
B) It stops over in TPE which is near the bottom of the list as far as major airports in East Asia are concerned. I hate transiting there - no TG airside lounge and if you hike all the way over to the SQ lounge, you'll only be able to spend 5 minutes max there, if they're even open.
C) They usually put one of the non-refurbished 773's on that route, but now that there aren't any more 773's flying that haven't been refurbished, that's no longer an issue.
If I need to fly in the morning, I normally choose the BKK-HKG-ICN route, though if in J there's a good chance you'll get an older A330 with the regional seats, or a new A330 with the horrible very limited recline pod seats. However, wouldn't you know it, I'm booked next week on the BKK-TPE-ICN flight due to a connecting flight that night (BKK-HKG-ICN now gets in way too late to be of any value for connecting flights, and I have an evening connecting flight out of ICN). I'm booked into economy, but with any luck I might get upgraded to C as has been happening these days to me on flights full in economy. If I'm stuck in economy though, I'll try to snag a C menu if I can and report back.
I just did TG 634, BKK-TPE-ICN, and luckily got upgraded from Y to C. Here's the menu:
Bangkok - Taipei
Fruit Juice
Fresh Fruits and Yoghurt
Main Course
Stir-fried Yellow Noodles with Chicken, Black Mushroom,
Carrot and Cabbage
Shrimp Siew-mai
or Quiche Lorraine, Pan-fried Bacon
Sauteed Mixed Mushroom with Herb
or Boiled Rice with Grouper
Roll, Croissant, Butter, jam
Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate
***
Taipei - Seoul
First Course
Marinated Prawns, Smoked Salmon
Main Course
Grilled Beef with Red Wine Sauce
Sauteed Red Potatoes
Sauteed Broccoli, Carrot
or Steamed Halibut with Spring Onion Ginger Sauce
Steamed Rice, Vegetables
or Salted Baked Chicken with Hainan Style
Pilaff Rice, Stir-fried Loofah
For breakfast, I just had some of the fruit and passed on the rest.
For lunch, I opted for the beef, even though I've never had decent beef on TG. I did so because I wanted to compare it to the beef steak I had on OZ last month. There was absolutely no comparison. The TG beef was disgusting and I could only eat a few bites, while the OZ steak was by far the best steak I've ever had on a plane. The carrots, broccoli, and potatoes were fine, as was the sauce, just the beef cut itself was absolutely the cheapest available. The cheese was a Mini Babybel with Carr's crackers.
Yes, I'm positive. TG 635 ICN-TPE-BKK a year ago on a B744 with the old seats. I think TG were running the 744 on this route until the airport problems last year (which I got stuck in) and then reduced their ICN capacity, dropping this flight to a 773.
I forgot to mention, there was no amenities kit on this route, whereas there was on the direct ICN-BKK route just two weeks ago. One of the FAs told me that they don't stock them on this route. Seemed odd to me, being I'm sure I recall them being on the BKK-HKG-ICN route, which would have similar timings between the stops. They didn't even have slippers.
