Alright I'm most likely sticking with AUS. DFW I put down as an alternative since I can get to DFW on nonstop flights. I'm coming from MKE and I'm getting as low as $137 on two MD-80's to DFW or $228 to AUS on four MD-80's.

Hm, might be time to look at reverse and see if I can visit Wisconsin to get away from the summer heat here in Texas @:-)

It's a great city. You got the Art Museum, Discivery World, the Harley Davidson Museum, and a beautiful lakefront.

Sorry I missed this...definitely Austin. I lived there for quite a few years, and I still get back whenever I can.

San Antonio would be my choice, as it has Fiesta Texas (Six Flags), Sea World, Riverwalk, Alamo and the Institute of Texan Cultures (one of the best museums in Texas).

I can totally understand why anyone would want to ride an MD-80 before they go away (nostalgia, #avgeek, etc.).

So a challenge for OP... you can't get the full effect of the Mad Dog unless you sit in the last row, window seat, next to the engines

Either that or sit in row 30 than you'll get the effect.

Here's a contrarian thought: If OP plans on coming back to Texas ever, may OP should spend this one day in on of the "other" Texas cities, like El Paso, etc.

Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Houston all seem like 2+ day visits to me.
