Front page bit.ly links issues
I'm in China.
Bit.ly redirect links are blocked.
So I can't read anything that is linked so.
Can FT consider something else?

Sorry for the inconvenience. We'll pass the front page information on.
FlyerTalk doesn't have control over the links that are embedded by members in their posts. The easiest way is to post and request a direct (or perhaps a tinyurl or other link that might be acceptable in China - chances are we don't know what those are). That way the original poster can clarify and edit their post and you are providing educational information to the rest of us reading that thread.

Just wondering if there an update to this?
I still can't click any of the links on the front page, which means I usually have to go to Google to find the threads or manually search.

Hello alphaod,
Thank you for your inquiry and I am sorry for not responding back to you sooner. We are sorry, but tech has reported back saying that they can't unblock bit.ly in China and unfortunately, FT can't do much about this issue.

FT do seem to be able to do one thing... they have changed the Talkmail newsletter so that the links to interesting discussions now also bounce through a bit.ly link and thus are now broken in China.

Bit.ly links on the front page - bit.ly blocked in China (To merge)
I noticed that under the "Must Read" section of the front page posted forum threads (and not the blog articles) are published using Bit.ly links.
It would be great if you could stop using this and post using the actual FT url as Bit.ly links are blocked in China.
Thank you.

This was brought up once before, apparently it hasn't been fixed: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...ks-issues.html

I understand Bit.ly has analytics and such but surely, there can be a substitute service if data aggregation is a must.
The thing is, the blog articles are actually hotlinked with original URLs but it's the forum posts that go through the Bit.ly.
With the tightening of the GFW here in China VPNs are not as smooth or stable as before so a lot of us are forced to just load FT directly.
Hope we can get a resolution to this...
