Note: if FlyerTalk / vB Advanced Search is not working for you, here's a decent way to use Google Advanced Search to search FT (the form is already set up for Flyertalk):

Search results - not sorted by date/relevance, index issues
Steps to repro:
1) Open this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/us-ai...ad-merged.html
2) Search this thread for "LX F"
Expected results:
Results are sorted in some obvious order, typically relevance (most/least) or date (oldest/newest).
Actual results:
First message in results is from today. Then the results list starts from 9/22/11, and goes in ascending date through 2/15/14 (pg 9). Then it switches to 12/18/10, and goes into ascending date until 9/11/11 (pg 15). Then it starts at 11/11/09 and goes in ascending date through the last result on pg 20.
I can't figure out what pattern it's using. For most threads, I think it's most helpful to default to "newest posts first".
Anyone else seeing odd sort orders in the search results?

This appears to be fixed now (I assume it was related to the other thread on search indexing).
However, because the thread is so long, I have to go all the way to the last page to see a post from about 14m ago (and I'm sure there have been posts on the same topic since then).
2 possible solutions:
1) Ask the moderators to split long threads. What would the tech folks suggest as the limit? Looks like it returns a max of 500 results in a search, so perhaps that should be the guideline used as the max size?
2) Change the default sort order to show most recent posts first.
Are there other possible solutions?

You can do this on your own.
If you go to the Control Panel and "Edit Options", you can change the default for how posts show... sounds like you want "Linear - Newer First".
I know I prefer the other way... threads get newer as I move down the screen.

In the forums, I want (and use) linear - oldest first. In the search results, I would want the opposite.

Broke again. Can you please monitor the search index so when it stops indexing new posts we don't have to keep telling you?

Search index broken again
Now 3 days old. Obviously there is something wrong where whatever process is indexing the posts keeps crashing. Maybe you can monitor that instead of relying on us to tell you it's broken as it seems to be happening often lately, thanks.
