Ads in the "ad free" version of FT
I am concerned that the text ad for Frugal Travel guy's stuff on the main forum page is a toe in the door for more and more ads to appear on ad-free versions of FT.
A text ad is still an ad!

Hi Richard,
It's not an ad. That's part of the notification system within the VBulletin software that runs FT. We use it to announce site changes, contests, elections, the FlyerTalk Awards, etc. In this case, it's a contest that can benefit FTers and is (of course) voluntary, and the notice only appears once.
Thank you,
Paul

Yes, is there any more progress on an ad free option, iBobi? The floating ad is a real pain when accessing FT on one's phone, as you can see below...

RichardinSF, do you get ads with FT when abroad too?
Sometimes I do (in the local language), but when I was using a proxy server in China to listen to Pandora, the ads never played.
With games on mobile devices, if you turn the wifi off, no ads will appear. It obviously doesn't help here, but...
