how could a major firm like IBB have such horrible network performance?

FT was crashing off & on all day Thursday, 11/12 & down all of Friday 11/13, as was most of IB's other websites, including their own home page. What I find surprising is there has been no explanation to any of their customers of what the problem was & if it has been fixed or can we expect further problems.

There are several reasons why companies may have network performance issues. Size is no immunity; no one is immune to problems. The important thing is how does IT react to network performance issues.

Same platform, huge IBB, never, ever recall it being down.
And, from the irony department, Internet Brands own website is now unreachable.
I remember when FT was sold to them, there was much hype and prating about how they were "experts."
Sadly, no; not from what we've seen under their stewardship.
And even now, FT may be back up but it's slow and "lurchy."

I think shareholders should ask serious questions about the lack of communications and network recovery. for a company that bases their entire business on sites being available for ads to show, it is a big risk to keep the 'status quo' of no answers, no improvement.
Maybe i should buy some stocks to be able to ask these questions as someone with a stake...

I work in the IT Security field, so, I know regardless how big you are, or, how redundant things can be, in a DDOS type situation it can really be crippling. These things happen and are very difficult to mitigate.

Some interesting read about IB's problems with its clients. Maybe a reason for the downtime in the past two days?

Anyway I do agree with others that it is rather surprising that company whose main business are these "communities" doesn't have systems in place to keep their sites alive during cyber "attacks".

If I had to guess based on the little bit of research I did on our network... The DNS they have was either offline or being bombarded with requests. I could see hits going only as far as their directly connected 10GigE and stoping right at the DNS servers ip. I also was for some reason bumped into what must have been their 10.x.x.x private ip space. As I kept getting auth windows for that. So someone must have been trying to bring them down. Hopefully they narrowed down the prefix range and blackholed it.
Just my guesses.

Just wonderin' . . .
Did any "official" from FT say anything publicly about this or apologize? I know it's a free site and all (but it makes money from its users) and someone may have said something, but I don't go to all corners of this site to check, just wondering if there's been an official explanation for the board being down throughout the pm business hours yesterday.
