Same here.

As I see it, further throttling of legitimate contribution capacity to FT is not what FT needs.

True; but all moderators have the tools to permanently suspend the posting privileges of FlyerTalk members when necessary — meaning that “spammers” can be stopped at any time.

Our charge (as four senior mods) is essentially moderation of our assigned fora, moderation of all fora without assigned moderators, moderation of the moderator forum and finally, dealing with cross-forum issues. We get the "Alert a moderator to this post" messages and moderation messages about posts requiring approval (or other action) for the first three.

We do not intervene in fora with assigned moderators unless there is an urgent or cross forum issue (spam storm, were asked to look in when mods are away, or, as a common cross-forum issue, multiple forum spam.

It does keep all four of us all busy at times. We have a significant stake in abating spam. I'm not sure throttling back the number of threads per day by newly registered members would accomplish much in that regard, IMO.

I run a pretty big board and we get HUNDREDS of spammers a week trying to sign up and post.

Most get caught by auto checking against spam resource boards.

The rest need to be MANUALLY activated, and all are manually checked.

Those that get through and there will always be some, are detected by Mods.

Like here, works well.
