Makes sense to me. I like it.

Well, for instance Uber just came out in Krakow (a week ago). I already took about 10 rides with them so far, and it's a great service. There are always some tricks I can mention in the new forum (example: Uber doesn't have the access to the B zone which is the town center like taxis do, so I would recommend any taxi company if you want to go somewhere in the town center). So, I do hope this motion will pass as I really see a potential for the ride services.

That's a very good point. Certainly, we're not intending to include Amtrak or Greyhound, for instance.

I like the idea of a simple name change...

...and if enough discussions are posted in the existing forum to warrant a new forum, we can always revisit the possibility of adding that new forum then.

Existing forum? I understood nsx's draft would create a whole new forum specifically for ride services.

The proposal has two parts: renaming the Car Rental heading and creating a Ride Services forum under that heading. Canarsie wants to try just the first part and decide on the second part later.

Correct.

Part of my reasoning is based on this quote:

It was never inevitable, speaking for myself; so if we can feature content pertaining to Uber and similar services without having to create a new forum, why not support it?

I do fully & completely support your suggestion to simply rename the forum to include other topics instead of minting yet another new forum and hope others on TB do also.

I believe that ride services like Uber and Lyft deserve their own forum.

Is the Miles&Points section really the right place for ride services? Seems counter-intuitive to me.

I certainly agree that nobody is earning miles and points -- yet -- from ride-service companies. But they are so closely aligned with car rentals that the proposed arrangement seems natural to me.

Really? I use Uber on a weekly basis and would never align what is effectively a mini-cab service with a car rental service. Uber is simply an alternative to taxi, train, bus, rickshaw [insert other single journey chauffeured ground transportation method here]

That’s just my personal view though. Has the TalkBoard consulted with our Destination forum regulars? One should not assume they’ll find this discussion here

There is a tie in with American Express Membership Rewards in the USA, both earning and redeeming points:

Ground transportation?

Would that encompass rail, such as European Rail Travel and any others FT might grow (what with the US vacating the field of play and China's strong entry into domestic high speed rail and plans to build high speed rail in several Asian countries)?

Bus travel? (Mexico forum has a bus thread, because in some countries it's the alternative, ground-based transportation and can be quite luxurious to boot).

There's a crossover partnership between Uber and SPG so that you do earn hotel points for Uber rides.
