Can some of these conversations get any sillier.

Please send me a PM when there's a serious topic in this forum.

Just my 2 cents; and yes, I'm feeling fine today.

dhammer53 I couldn't have said it better!

Why not just ask the 300 Evangelists their preference? It shouldn't be that difficult. Alternatively, just advise them if they want the title removed they can, since some don't know that is possible. That is what I would have done rather than be labeled "Committed."

My feedback from a parallel thread:

I've been a member here for 7yrs, and I think today was the first time I learned that "Evangelist" was a title related to post count. I was under the impression that it was bestowed upon members that had made a significant contribution to FT. I was getting frustrated to see so many folks with the "Evangelist" label representing FT in a poor manner. I only learned this when trying to find the right forum to complain about these folks.
There's probably no perfect set of titles that everyone will agree on. But let's at least change the ones that are confusing.

I agree with my esteemed numerical colleague as well as with M. Hammer (and as to the latter, if you can have rabid Boston & New York sports fans agree on the same thing , think about what could be done here on FT )

Because you're likely to get 300 different answers and still wouldn't have a decision about what to do for further posters who break the 10K barrier. Do you want to ask each once as they're minted what their preference is? Seems awfully labour intensive unless you're volunteering to do it?

I'd love to see the evangelist title changed to something/anything else

Why not just create a field for "TITLE" in the profile and let people put whatever they want if they want a title....

Leave the space directly under the FT handle for official titles.

Perhaps achieving a particular # of posts could faciiltate this option or the number of characters available?

I'm against self-selected titles. It will just open a can of worms and/or give the mods something else to police.

Signatures became an issue and I suspect titles will as well.

I can already see the "PMmeforreferrallinks" titles

I believe other boards use # of posts as the trigger to unlock this option. Disagree on # of characters, seems like a level of complexity that's not needed.

I interpreted the comment as suggesting that the number of characters being limited if people create their own titles so that someone's "title" can't be a description taking up thirty lines under the username.

I poke my head in here from time to time for amusement, and once again am not disappointed. On boards that I serve (real boards, not internet forums), I try to evaluate what's best for the organization and reflect the underlying desires and beliefs of the members. There seems to be an "I don't like it, and I'm important, so I'm going to change it, I don't care what anyone thinks" attitude floating around.

Win-win?
Isn't that the status quo?

And perhaps they have. Perhaps the numbers are reflective. Or do you believe that 299 others aren't smart enough to figure out they can do it?

Personally, I was going to ask to have it removed until I reached the requisite number through real posts, not OMNI* cr@p. But I never got around to it and believe I've reached that threshold.
