WTH is this? An "advice" forum? Travel for free forum?

Can the mods please create another sub-forum so that this formerly useful forum is not clogged by useless threads about help with award bookings from newbies? There are currently 12 threads on the first page asking for help. Most of these are from people with less than 100 posts who it appears have never looked at an award chart in their lives.

EXCELLENT idea. The stated purpose of this forum is: Discussion of the latest frequent flyer & hotel program buzz...only

I realize there's sometimes a need for asking for help but it does seem to growing in #'s here and pushing aside anything thatmight truly be 'buzz worthy'.

If the manufactiured spend threads were clogging the forum and needed their own space, why not take it further and clean these up as well.

I suggest creation of one combined thread into which all of these get flushed. Give it a name like "help me find award flights."

Agreed. Not only is the low post count unnerving but look at the date joined, yikes.

Moderator action

Please read the first post of this thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2707385-post1.html

Have a lot of miles and points in a bunch of programs and don’t know what to do with them all? Ask away!

Just getting started? Want to know what can work for you, don’t be shy ask here.
Suggestions for new forums should be submitted to TalkBoard, but do your homework first:

A bit harsh.. i have 700 posts.. joined for several years, and have seen plenty of award charts.. i just wasn't sure about stop over/open jaw opportunities about a specific part of the world that i've never been.

I also disagree with these threads being "useless", as help with award booking is highly useFUL and could provide future value to others.

I do agree that a separate area (be it forum or subforum) for all the "help with getting from A to B" threads can't hurt.

These posts probably track the "how do I get a credit card" posts that swelled in number about 12-18 months ago. Just as some posters then did little research of exiting threads but chose to just fire questions, now they're doing the same thing with the much more complex issues of reward redemption.

We all have questions from time to time. However, those who choose to spend little or no time to learn even the basics of reward redemption should just choose a service, pay the fee and let someone who has learned these skills help them out.

As for placement in FT, I think Miles Buzz is much better since the Manufacturing and Blog criticism threads have been moved elsewhere, and the "help me redeem" requests should be similarly repositioned. Definitions notwithstandng, there's little "Buzz" involved with telling people over and over how to figure out what airline flies where.

Agree completely on a separate forum. If you look at the membership time and number of posts for some of the "requests" you see the following:

Join May 2011, posts 14
Join Aug 2012, posts 2
Join April 2013, posts 3
Join April 2013, posts 4
Join June 2000, posts 106
Join May 2006, posts 22
Join Jan 2010, posts 56

As you can see, some of the people have been members for many, many years, but they do not have significant posts - and in some cases all of their posts are in the thread that they started asking for the help.

By placing all the "help me book" threads in one central area, it will help all those people see the trials and tribulations that others have gone through and give them ideas on how to book their own trip. A win - win for all.

100% agree. These "Help me to fly to Istanbul tomorrow" topics need to go.

+1 to that. There's a subset of us who are happy to help polite newbies who gave it a shot and got stumped, but a separate forum for those requests would be nice. And the newbies won't get flamed with "Why didn't you figured it out yourself?" posts on their first visit to FT.
