New forum: Manufactured Controversy (April 1 / April Fool)
As President of the TalkBoard I have today issued an executive order to create a new subforum of OMNI/PR, called Manufactured Controversy. Its charter will be all topics of minimal inherent importance where discussion continues forever with no resolution possible. FlyerTalk's readers need us to corral such discussion so that the rest of FlyerTalk can remain informative and fun.
Travel-related topics will include:
This being OMNI/PR, non-travel-related topics will also be appropriate:
I hope this change improves FlyerTalk. In that spirit, the first thread to be moved to the new Manufactured Controversy forum will be this one.
Oh, and one other thing: April Fool!
Travel-related topics will include:
- Seat reclining: who's right and who's wrong?
- Oversize customers: should they be entitled to a free second seat?
- Fact-free speculation on changes to programs
This being OMNI/PR, non-travel-related topics will also be appropriate:
- The war on women
- The war on gays
- The war on guns
- The war on anything else
- Any and all conspiracy theories
I hope this change improves FlyerTalk. In that spirit, the first thread to be moved to the new Manufactured Controversy forum will be this one.

I find your list interesting - you consider these topics to be of 'minimal inherent importance' - I suspect because you are not impacted by them perhaps?

As the statute of limitations has expired on this subject, maybe it should be tabled to next "fool" season.
