Could this be a possible test case for a forum wide poll for member input on the issue. Should be very easy technically? And for recommendation purpose only. Unfortunately there are too few members around this forum on such specific issues raising their opinion.
With such small numbers as here I can easily defend a TB voting something through which had 1-9 against on one thread and the opposite as well.

china has 5 alliance airlines (and 1 of those has 1 affiliate)
none have forums - this seems extremely odd to say the least
3 sky team + 1 affiliate and 2 star alliance - how much discussion is currently in the alliance forums? (or milesbuzz)

5. Is a critical mass of posts and readers anticipated or existing? We need adequate traffic to keep everyone visiting frequently. One living forum is more valuable than two mostly dead ones.
It seems Chinese based airlines take up a rough 2/3 of all traffic in Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs.

FYI, there are current no (as in zero) threads about Chinese airlines on the first page of the "other" forum.

However the idea behind the motion is the vast amount of related traffic spread out in time AND forums, taking all reasonable comparisons on threshold required elsewhere on FT to create a separate forum.

Not correct, as per time of writing there are 8 threads on Taiwanese Chinese carriers and one on mainland carriers (which also was there when moondog posted) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...330-200-a.html
i get the feeling (the issue of) taiwan is the reason this never goes anywhere.

Therefore should not be even CONSIDERED as part of the China Airline forum.
Please do not take Communist China's side on this issue. Flyer Talk is supposed to be politically neutral. Only China feels Taiwan is part of China and forcing this issue.
Taiwan has separate visa requirements, military, trade agreements, airline agreements. It is culturally Chinese but politically it is not. It should not be grouped into China anything.

Lots of countries being currently or previsouly at war etc are being discussed in the same forum on specific issues.
You could also see at as mainland China is put under Taiwan. But this is nbot politics. This is FT.
I have extreme sympathy for Taiwan on all political aspect, but I will not let politics into this- here.

Not so much. I believe sustainable traffic is the main concern and counter argument for the proposed forum from some of our China frequenters:

I've made a formal proposal to create a forum. It's been talked about in the private forum and I think it's time to go on the record. I've read everything in this thread and I think there's enough to go on.
For the record, I intend to vote against it provided it receives a second.
Also, I don't think a sticky is a bad idea and that can be accomplished without TB intervention.

Unless I'm missing a link that leads to an English language area of this site, it's all in Chinese except for a few words (such as western name brands) that are written in Roman letters. I wouldn't trust google translate or something similar to be accurate for airline rules, etc.
