Could this be a possible test case for a forum wide poll for member input on the issue. Should be very easy technically? And for recommendation purpose only. Unfortunately there are too few members around this forum on such specific issues raising their opinion.

With such small numbers as here I can easily defend a TB voting something through which had 1-9 against on one thread and the opposite as well.

china has 5 alliance airlines (and 1 of those has 1 affiliate)
none have forums - this seems extremely odd to say the least
3 sky team + 1 affiliate and 2 star alliance - how much discussion is currently in the alliance forums? (or milesbuzz)
and apparently china forum >

If you pair this with the numbers I have provided its hardly an argument that there is not sufficient traffic on Chinese carriers based on FT standards. Its also very interesting that among the Other carriers forums, the one including Chinese carriers is by far the biggest- due to yes you guessed right: the Chinese carriers.

Eager to hear some outcome from TB discussions

FYI, there are current no (as in zero) threads about Chinese airlines on the first page of the "other" forum.

Not correct, as per time of writing there are 8 threads on Taiwanese Chinese carriers and one on mainland carriers (which also was there when moondog posted) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...330-200-a.html

However the idea behind the motion is the vast amount of related traffic spread out in time AND forums, taking all reasonable comparisons on threshold required elsewhere on FT to create a separate forum.

so only 1 mainland at that moment.
i get the feeling (the issue of) taiwan is the reason this never goes anywhere.

TAIWAN IS NOT PART OF CHINA

Therefore should not be even CONSIDERED as part of the China Airline forum.

Please do not take Communist China's side on this issue. Flyer Talk is supposed to be politically neutral. Only China feels Taiwan is part of China and forcing this issue.

Taiwan has separate visa requirements, military, trade agreements, airline agreements. It is culturally Chinese but politically it is not. It should not be grouped into China anything.

Taiwan is indeed an independant country. And it will still be if we for practical reasons discuss airline aspects of the the two countries in the same forum. EXCACTLY as it even is today. They are discussed side by side and seemingly NOONE has any issues with that.

Lots of countries being currently or previsouly at war etc are being discussed in the same forum on specific issues.

You could also see at as mainland China is put under Taiwan. But this is nbot politics. This is FT.

I have extreme sympathy for Taiwan on all political aspect, but I will not let politics into this- here.

thats what TB is doing by not having forum.

if there is forum, there could be continual "include taiwan" "exclude taiwan" to the point of actually voting the change into effect back and forth, repeatedly.

Not so much. I believe sustainable traffic is the main concern and counter argument for the proposed forum from some of our China frequenters:

+1. If this forum does get created (whether or not it's limited solely to PRC airlines or adopts a "Greater China" approach), I'm willing to bet that it will follow in the footsteps of the Korea forum.

We have heard you state this. Can you offer some more info on what you regard sustainable traffic, and as you dont seem to agree there is so, backed by the provided numbers by me and others, how many of the other forums you would like to close down- or if you mean that this proposal should have other thresholds?

I've made a formal proposal to create a forum. It's been talked about in the private forum and I think it's time to go on the record. I've read everything in this thread and I think there's enough to go on.

For the record, I intend to vote against it provided it receives a second.

Also, I don't think a sticky is a bad idea and that can be accomplished without TB intervention.

Thanks for letting the majority decide. Having proposals formally voted in is IMO a good thing.

Unless I'm missing a link that leads to an English language area of this site, it's all in Chinese except for a few words (such as western name brands) that are written in Roman letters. I wouldn't trust google translate or something similar to be accurate for airline rules, etc.
