As Korea is a place I hope one day to visit, I would be very happy with a dedicated forum to help me learn.

I see very few threads about Korea in the Asia forum.

If a forum IS created, for goodness sake don't call it "Countries of the Korean Peninsula." That has to be the most stilted title ever.

I think Korea doesn't need an own forum. If however there will be one, please call it simple "Korea" or "the Koreas" or even "Korea (South and North)" - after all, how many countires are out ther on the peninsula to justify the proposed lengthy title?

If Korea gets it's own forum why should any other small country not get it's own forum. South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Taiwan. All of these places merit a forum IMHO before Korea. Korea is a nice country but hardly a tourist mecca.

Thumbs up I welcome a "Korea Forum"

Recently I have made a short holiday in Seoul by flying OZ for the first time (from NRT to ICN). I was very satisfield and hope to visit Korea again.

I welcome a "Korea Forum".

I completely agree that these countries merit their own forums. But we have to one at a time.

As mentioned in the motion, the forum title would be Korea Forum. The description of the forum would be Countries of the Korean Peninsula.

Cheers.

Browsing occasionally in fora I normally don't frequent, one can find first pages where the lower half has threads where the last post is 2+ weeks old. Does that demerit the forum?

Personally, I believe that a Korean forum may add something positive. I look forward to share information before my upcoming trip on KE to ICN in January. As it's only possible to travel to FNJ on organized group travel for 10-12 days, that's in the future. But just look at what changes Myanmar/Burma had the last months...

A question for the future Korean forum:
What is the name of the JS FFP?

According to the US census, in 2011, trade between US and South Korea resulted:

US-South Korea
$43 billion Export and $57 billion Import.

Compared to:
Vietnam - $4 bil export / 18 bil import
Malaysia - 14 bil export / 26 bil import
Indonesia - 7 bil export / 19 bil import

We aren't just talking about leisure travel here. US and South Korea trade alone gives special status to the importance of business travel. Leisure travel is just icing on the cake as some others have said.

There is a reason why airlines cater to non-stop between North American cities (LAX, SFO, LAS, SEA, DFW, ORD, JFK, ATL, HNL, YYZ, YVR) and Seoul (ICN) because there is demand for travel for passengers and cargo being exchanged.

Since I was born in South Korea and visited North Korea two years ago, I obviously say vote yes.

If that is the case I disagree. I have traveled to the South many times and a forum would be great. But there is no need to confuse the two...

If that's the yardstick being used for measurement is Antarctica? It has had a forum for years and like the frozen continent is lightly trafficked so forum creation need not be tied to rigid measurments like population, inbound tourism rates, GDP or airline service.

There aren't enough threads to justify making N. Korea a sub-forum. There had been some comments about a North & South Korea forum title being problematic, so the suggestion by the OP (following the Spain/Portugal/Gibraltar method) was to have the title be Korea Forum & the description would be Countries of the Korean Peninsula.

Cheers.

Because unlike Korea it doesnt fit anywhere else.

Personally its a 50/50, not sure if its needed. I think the level should be lower for miles/points programs than for FT subset as countries.

Like I find it absolutely hilarious that we dont have CA forum or even airlines of China (probably my next proposal unless someone are more triggerhappy) when Korea is about to be one
