that the recent TalkBoard motion to make the "Mileage Run forum be accessible only to registered and logged in members" be set aside due to lack of clarity.
This vote will close on July 12, 10 at 5:30 pm or after all TalkBoard members have registered their vote, whichever comes first.
Per the TalkBoard Guidelines:
The purpose of posting voting topics in the public TalkBoard Topics forum is to solicit member feedback on any motions that are up for a vote and to allow for comments after a vote is made. It is at the sole discretion of the individual TalkBoard members whether they choose to post in the public discussion thread, there being no requirement to do so.
So while there is already a thread and discussion on this general topic and it is safe to assume that TalkBoard members have reviewed that thread, this thread is about this specific motion. Please feel free to post questions, comments or any other sort of feedback.
A motion shall pass if two-thirds of TalkBoard members participating in that vote vote ‘yes.’

Concurrent motions, one to rescind a previous motion and one to pass a new one? Why the rush? While admittedly unlikely what happens if the motion to rescind the clarity challenged motion fails while the motion to make MR Discussion users be logged in passes? Why not take it one step at a time and rescind the previous motion before proposing a correction?
Call it pedantic but having gotten it wrong once MHO would be to slow things down rather than speed them up. That's just MHO of course and quite obviosuly YMMV. Flame away.

Before any motion is made, it is generally required that the TB discuss it for at least 2 days in the private forum. Often times, but not always, the wording of motions is agreed upon and one has an idea whether a motion will likely pass or not pass based on said discussion.
The last motion, which I made, was not fully thought out and the wording was off. This corrects that problem.

I am concerned about the phrase 'set aside'. I would have prefered that it be repealed and as such, have abstained on this motion. Set Aside suggests that it has some potential ability to reinstated at a point in the future. That's not what I want.

Markie, can you help me understand your concern a little more?
As it would take a 2/3 majority vote to set aside the vote, wouldn't it also take the same 2/3 majority to reinstate it?
If so, how would it be any different for the TB to reinstate motion than it would be for them to vote in a new one with the same rules?
Once a motion is made and seconded, does discussion stop in the TB private forum? I am surprised that the motion passed... and then the people who voted now want to rescind the vote... what was unclear in the vote... the motion appeared pretty clear.
Just wondering... when I was on TB... discussions continued during the voting phase... and often swayed opinions.
If this gets rescinded, does that mean a new vote/motion will happen re: the mileage run discussion forum, which appears to be the 'hiccup' that this new vote is based on & which (my guess is) everyone though they were voting for in the first place?
