Hall of Shame - Worst SPG experiences (Where would you not stay again?)

The following hotels have been voted as the worst in the Starwood portfolio of hotels.

Hotels with a low number of votes, and there is a majority that only have one vote each, should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Moreover, several hotels have had significant renovations since the original vote(s) were cast. As a result, negative votes for those properties should be discounted.

> June 2014: Bath towels stank. Night staff at front desk were curt and unkempt -- a guy had crooked glasses and dandruff all over his suit jacket. He frowned several times while processing my check in. No smile or welcome, verbally or nonverbally. While I was checking in he received phone calls from several guests, and he refused every request swiftly, firmly, and without apology: "No. What?! No. Housekeeping is closed." I trashed the hotel in a post-stay survey and received an apology from the manager with a vague offer of a future room upgrade. No compensation.

> May 2013: Sloppy housekeeping; room had trash left behind by previous guest. Broken AC; maintenance fixed for the afternoon, but it broke again overnight. Front desk, upon checkin, claimed no king rooms available (only doubles) despite non-suite king rooms for sale on spg.com. They assigned me a room by the elevator where I could hear nonstop dings and whooshes from the elevator shaft. Front desk was staffed by an uppity fellow who never cracked a smile. What a joke of a 12k points redemption.

> December 2012: Moldy shower tiles. Some rooms were so tiny you'd think you were in Tokyo. Irritating whoosh-whoosh from elevator shaft if room was close to elevator. Bad insulation of sound from hallways. Low class clientele - loud and boisterous folk who enjoyed bragging at 3 a.m. about sexual conquests. Low class front desk - when I asked for a room change because of noise, they asked me if my room was dirty.

> December 2014 (Royal Beach Club room): Heavenly bedding in name only, if at all. Mattress lacked the signature plush comfort; linens were thin and scratchy, pillows were flat and unsupportive. I slept on my bended arm and in the fetal position for warmth. Woke up sore and exhausted every morning despite 9-10 hours of sleep. Lounge breakfast was bland; happy hour was a joke -- buffet ran out within minutes of replenishment. If you wanted the hot item you had to keep tabs on the staff and hustle to the front of the line ASAP when a line began to form.

If you even have the slightest thought of staying at Le Meridien Marrakesh, drop me a PM. Worst. Hotel staff. Ever.

Seriously? I had one of my best stays there- they really laid down the red carpet. Huge verandah suite w/ Atlas mountain view, wine from GM, fruit baskets, free spa treatments, free internet, pickup from airport, etc.

Maybe your experience was so bad, SPG rained down on them and now they treat SPG guests much better?

I know the regional manager met with the manager there over the matter, so perhaps things have gotten better.

I did get a nice suite, fruit basket and some other goodies, but there were other matters of misconduct that went far beyond service issues.

Sheraton Gateway SFO - GM is HORRIBLE.

After literally falling on garage cement (in hotel garage) at 2:30 a.m. after walking down 15 flights (read at least 120 stairs) of stairs due to a "false fire alarm" - not a word of empathy from GM or Front Office Manager.

I suffered a bad abraison on my knee - I had to go to a doctor.

the GM had the nerve to say it was not the hotel's fault because a drunk guest had pulled the alarm.

I was absolutely apalled...

Don't worry, it's about to become a Hilton.

Definitely Sheraton Brookhollow Houston.

- I got up "in the morning" and realized that shampoo was missing. Called the front desk and he simply replied "we are short of staffs, can you come down and get it yourself?" ok, it was 6:30 am and you wanted to see me in my PJ?

- Window AC units were so loud. I had to sandwich my ears with pillows.

- Iron in some rooms will damage your cloth.... be careful. Called the front desk twice.. replacement never arrived.

Westin Paris: (charged for a SPG award room, no upgrade, snooty service, no room cleaning 2nd day + horrible follow-up from the hotel to resolve those issues)

Sheraton Manhattan: dirty & dingy

Westin Casaurina Las Vegas (there are many threads about this dump already)

Amen, the worst SPG property that currently exists and I had the luck to stay 1 night (thankfully the property in King of Prussia had closed earlier, that was the worst).

Glad I dismissed that property from our vacation options without even researching it on FT. Sounds like a lucky escape.

I really have to stay there and the Westin LAX. I hear so many awful things about those hotels that I have to see for myself.

The Westin San Francisco Market Street. Dirty bed sheets (hair between the sheets) and cigarette butts on the window sill.

it appears the grudges are mostly towards the Sheraton & the Westin properties? Anyway, list updated.
