I reach gold status via spend every year. When it resets, am I still gold in the time it takes to spend again or do I lose status until then?

Received a two level upgrade at the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh last week. I suspect I got lucky though. Late check out offered without asking also. Pleasantly surprised.

So if you can manage your spend to do it in just two months, you can skip a year and keep status intact. Reach status in 2014. Complete your spend by the end of February, 2016, and status continues.

Actually, once you earn Gold in 2014, you are Gold until the end of February, 2016. So if you also earn Gold in 2015, your status is now good until February, 2017.

Read it again... IF you make Gold in 2014, you have Gold until the end of February 2016. You do NOT need to do anything during 2015, but get your 2016 spend in by the end of February 2016, and you are good until the end of February 2018.

The qualification year does end 12/31 and all counters are reset at that time. However, benefits continue until the end of February the second year after status was earned.

To be very clear... What I am saying is if you earned Gold in 2014, do nothing in 2015, and then do the required Stays/Nights/Spend in the first two months of 2016, your status will remain intact.

If I "earn" my gold status by having an Amex Platinum, do those years count towards Lifetime Gold?
I know I still need to rack-up the 250 career nights, but once I hit that mark, assuming I've had SPG Gold thru Amex Platinum for 5+ years, will that get me Lifetime Gold?

Just posting to say Gold is pointless with SPG. I get an upgrade perhaps 1/10 stays, and someone should take pictures of the club level so I know what it looks like. It used to be better, in the early 200x's, but I guess everyone is Plat now.

Not sure why someone needs to take a picture of the club level, since club level rooms/access isn't a benefit for Gold. Any property that gives a Gold a upgrade like that is doing so out of kindness.
If you truly need/want to be on the club floor, simply book the corresponding room for it or earn platinum status.

I suppose that depends on whether you prefer late checkout or free breakfast (assuming stays at full-service Hilton properties). I'm not judging; each has its advantages.

If I'm upgraded to a club room/suite, and the room description (on app) says includes club lounge access, does that mean I have access or can the hotel deny it?
It's been a few times where I get a executive club room but front desk associates says I don't have lounge access but just a room upgrade.
