Got back from a quick stay here.
Very nice property. Not sure what the upgrade situation is typically like, I got a supposed "Deluxe" room from base room. Don't think there is much difference.
Breakfast and Lunch at the Marsh Tavern was quite good. Breakfast is typically in another restaurant on site but on this particular day it had been moved and I didn't have a chance to try it on another day. I didn't eat dinner on site, instead we went to Bistro Henry (about 10 mins away), which was recommended by the concierge. It wasn't quite fine dining (nor was it billed as such), but our meal was excellent and there were a couple of unique things on the menu.
The gym and spa was modern with great equipment. Only problem is you need to go outside to get to it. Not too great when its 20 degrees F outside. If you want to snowshoe/x-country ski you get complimentary access to the Hilden House down the street.
We did have one issue, which was the valet locking our car with the keys inside while the car was running. To their credit, the more senior valet stepped up, called the hotel's shuttle van and made sure that AAA unlocked the car. However, I did feel that they tried to keep it a bit hidden from the more senior front desk staff. I did bring it to their attention so that they would have an opportunity to go a bit above and beyond in terms of making up for it. Considering the car was sitting there running for probably an hour or so, I thought they would offer something, but they didn't. I let it go.
Overall, I was pretty happy with the service and offerings of the hotel and I'd probably go back, even though the valet incident rubbed me a bit the wrong way.

Incredible $99 rate! (midweek)
I've been tracking prices @ The Equinox for the past few weeks, but was reluctant to prepay for a quick birthday trip (June 28th to 30th), due to the horrible weather we have been experiencing in New England (tons of rain...rain...rain..)
Well, I happened upon an offer that was too good to be true today.
I just completed my booking on SPG.COM (using my SPG Gold Number for the booking) using the TRVLZO promotional code.
Rate for 28-Jun-09 to 30-Jun-09
Rate Plan: Travelzoo
99.00 in US DOLLARS per night
Taxes
State Tax 9.0 Percent Per Room Per Night Not In The Rate
Guarantee and Cancellation Policies
USD 198.00 deposit is due on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 and will be charged to the credit card provided.
The time for cancelling without penalty has passed.
If you cancel the forfeiture amount will be 198.00.
Room taxes may be charged on deposits and any penalties.
The most incredible part about this rate is that it includes the $25 per day resort fee. Previously, the lowest rate I could find was $149/per night + $25 per night resort fee.
I'll report back after the stay...
Wife is very very happy, that I canceled the Vegas Caesars [comp] reservation (and Atlantic City Caesars [comp] reservations... gotta cover your bases) --- and she gets her wish for a non-casino property trip for my birthday weekend....

I completely concur that the promo $99 rate is exceptional. The last time I stayed at this wonderful place, it was during the Rock Resort days (maybe 6 years ago) and I paid $249 + tx for each night. It's a magnificent property and at $99, an amazing deal.

Just FYI, tried to book the 99 rate on the website with the promo code and couldn't find any availability. If you're interested in the rate, just call plat concierge and give them the promo code. They were able to find availability almost any day this summer (dates the website priced at significantly higher rates...)

FWIW, I've only had success booking online using the SPG/Travelzoo link. I did not have success booking by entering the code on the SPG site.

hmmmm... just got done with a mid-week stay here and was very unimpressed.
1) This was a special occasion and platinum concierge noted this on my one-night stay. Platinum concierge was also kind enough to call the night before when I noted that I was still in a standard room and had not even been pre-blocked into deluxe. The hotel made no effort to upgrade. I called the day of mentioning that I was on my way and if the hotel could please keep me in mind for an upgrade. Arrived at check-in. NO upgrade. Platinum concierge also indicated that using a "who touched" she discovered that the hotel had not even looked at my reservation. The front desk lady (someone from Croatia) was very nice, but said, "sorry, we have no upgrades, here is your standard room." When I looked aghast, asked for a least a deluxe room (the hotel apparently only has 3 suites), and complained, she then gave me a choice of 3 different deluxe rooms. Huh? Why weren't those assigned to me and why did she claim the hotel was full and couldn't do an upgrade????
2) Platinum amenity was not in the room. 1/2 hour after check-in I call down and ask for it. Shannon at the front desk says "It looks like your platinum status hasn't been updated sir." Huh? What does that mean? "ok, I respond, please just send it up soon."
4 hours later, I'm still waiting for the platinum amenity.
So I called down to the front-desk and again get Shannon and ask for the platinum amenity.
"I'm sorry sir, the kitchen is very busy right now."
Huh? (the typical amenity is a box of chocolates. Where's the cooking involved in that?) And has the kitchen been busy for the last 4 hours? So busy they couldn't bring up a box of chocolates to the second floor?
By 9pm (6 hours later), after I've left a message with the manager (mind you no assistant manager or anybody other than the front desk is apparently on duty after 6pm here), someone finally arrives with the chocolate. Ok. Thanks.
3) I also found the spa attendants aloof and unfriendly. A typically nice hotel will show a guest around the spa when they mention they've never been there before. The 2 ladies working there on the day I arrived were too busy playing on the computer to offer to help when I indicated I was turned around...
Overall, lackluster service. And I was VERY disappointed with the lack of Plat recognition and lack of effort to treat me as a plat preferred guest.

Please don't tell me that you sat in your room for six hours waiting for a box of chocolates.

Thank you for taking the time to note you recent experience. What a shame that your experience with the front desk seemed to have been so marginal. I'd be more interested, however, in hearing about your impressions of the total property (rooms, facilities, grounds, dining options, etc) on your recent stay.
This property certainly has the ability to put forward an excellent resort experience. The location, the building, the history and the heritage are all pure class; let's hope they're not skimping too much on staff expense to neutralize all that's so wonderful about this place.
