I am staying here using a FRN for one night (Sunday) in December. Guess I shouldn't expect any upgrade here?

Aug. Stay

Stayed here in Aug. for a weekend as a Plat. $159 Beat the Timer Rate (which was better than spending the 20k points a night we had planned)...The hotel was very busy. We got upgraded to a corner room. They are not suites but have very cool rounded windows and great views. Strangely enough, it has a very nice bathroom, but no shower-- just a big tub. I live in Europe and know this is common, but not at nicer hotels. Anyway, the rooms are very nice and updated. As with most hotels these days, the concierges are useless. Case in point: we asked for walking directions one day and he took out an old phone book thing and began flipping through it, so i just turned on my iphone and found it in 10 seconds -- also, we asked for reservations at Buddha Bar. The concierge said impossible. He wouldn't even call! So we called and they said, no problem and we got a reso for that night. These guys here are just useless suits...Anyway, very nice pool. Lots of chairs. The beach is rocky, but very nice water and they have lots of toys for kids. We went as a couple, but seems ok with kids as well...The location is a bit out of town, but you can walk the boardwalk to the casino in 10 minutes...Oh also, valet parking was 50 euro a day, but we parked in a garage across the st for like 20 euro a day...and be aware, taxis here are a bit of a gamble. they have no meter and seem to charge you what they want...other than that, no lounge for Plats, so don't expect too much above and beyond...

Does anyone know what the difference is between Crystal rooms and Executive rooms? Which rooms have windows between guest rooms and bathrooms? and TVs in bathrooms?

Does this hotel have any smoking rooms?

I tried to get this information from the hotel, but received a terse email back saying they do not respond to individual email requests for information unless you have a reservation. Sounds like this hotel has a real chip on its shoulder?!

Spring Break stay planned

We plan to be there end of March. Some convention in town, so no cash + points. 20k for 4 days with 5th free not available as no standard rooms.
The price increased by 1500 points for an executive room = 86k for 4 nights with 5th free.
List price 450 E for each night, so comes to about 560$ value = almost price of 20k points bought from spg at 2.8c each.
So what is really an executive room? Is there a lounge floor at all?
Are there any benefits for Gold in this place?
I am half tempted to go to Nice and stay there for a week and just take cabs here. Of course this is Monaco, a cab is probably a few 100$ each day.

Having just stayed at the empty Palazzo in Vegas, it takes some getting used to, to go to Eu and stay at full price upscale hotels.

I stayed in October on a Sunday night with an FRN certificate.

I got a great, ocean-facing top-floor room with balcony. I don't know if it was officially an upgrade but the room itself was very large; I was impressed.

I preferred staying in Nice (I find that city more interesting), but the pool / beach area and eatery was good. The train from Nice was about $10 EUR one-way and took only ~ 30 minutes.

So - we're here right now - Me and Mrs 90 - based on a 3 night stay FRN promotion. I can give the thread a couple of pointers...
1. Even though I'm Plat and have been for months, I was told at checkin I was "only a Gold card" on their system. When they double checked - I became Platinum. I've no idea why this happened - reception staff couldnt explain.. apparently that was then amended - dont think it made any difference :-)
2. We were 'upgraded' to a Sea View executive room. Its OK - but other colleagues have had the Corner Exec rooms which they raved about - I'm not raving based on the room I have on the 6th floor.
3. There are very few Plat acknowledgements - no Lounge, no free breakfast, even on our first day there was no complimentary water in the room. The Internet is free - if charged it will be comped at check out. I really dont think Plat carries much weight here at all.
4. Had a Club sandwich (comes with fries) and an extra portion of fries delivered as room service - 47€ included a 6€ service charge to give you a feel - there are great restaurants up and down the street - like other posters, loved Avenue 31 as well as the cafe along the street which serves fantastic coffee and fresh croissants - 4€60 gets a coffee / croissant combo... saves the 32€ per person hotel breakfast which we felt we couldnt justify as light morning eaters.
5. Unlike other posters, have had good , solid help from the Concierge team in booking restaurants and general advice.
6. Its winter and look, its low season - so the bar and general reception / lounging area is very quiet - to be expected really. We walk the 20 mins to the Casino area - easy when you get your bearings.

Would I stay here again ? meh - maybe - feel like there is a layer of recognition that I deserve but dont get - then feel I'm being a bit of a prima donna about it all - after all its 3 free nights that normally we wouldnt get. I do think SPG need to 'educate' the team here - however, I have read the thread before coming here, have had the benefit of a colleague coming here before me and giving me some inside tracks....

Its great being away with Mrs 90 - like many of you, we rarely get a chance to get away together for an extended break - it could have just been a bit more special.

We'll were back from our BMW European Delivery trip. It was the trip of a lifetime! Here's the start of our Trip Report

We really enjoyed our stay here. We didn't use the beach or the pools as we were out and about but the check-in staff, valet staff, concierge staff were all professional and helpful when asked.

Breakfast as a Platinum was the full buffet although we got in late so we slept in and they were starting tear down when we arrived for breakfast. I think the 3 or 4 Latte's that we drank more than made up for this! From what we could see, there was a pancake and omelet made to order station as part of the buffet.

We were departing the day before the annual Yacht show so our view looked out over 50+ multi-million dollar sail boats and yacht's plus more in the harbor. Like a kid in a candy store, with a nickel and everything cost $100.00.

It was fun to see the ships in the harbor from our room which was really nice. We were on the top floor with a large balcony in the center of the building. It had a separate seating area and an Illy coffee machine that created great Espresso's with good crema. Illy's our favorite coffee brand so we like that Le Meridien's serve Illy coffee.

The morning of our departure was around 5:00 am so we didn't get to enjoy breakfast at the hotel. The car and driver the hotel concierge arranged showed up on time. (We had to drop off our BMW at the airport the day before as the vehicle transport center doesn't open until 9:00 am.)

We enjoyed Cafe de Paris for drinks and dinner on our last night. We ate outside and enjoyed the cars and people going by.

We would stay at the Le Meridien Monaco again. Monaco is like a jolt of energy on an otherwise laid back and mellow trip.

When I stayed there last month, I was told the breakfast as the platinum was only the continental breakfast, and pay to upgrade for full breakfast.
I was not sure they checked what I got from Buffet table, but I just picked continental items from buffet table(which was sufficient enough).

Maybe, I was misinformed when I checked in.

- We also stayed about a month ago (Aug.18-19 to be exact). I was told that PLT gets a continental breakfast for two and that upgrade to full buffet is 6 Euro (I hope my memory is right!) per person. We took an upgrade and indeed I was properly charged at the end.

Le Méridien in Monaco [Master Thread]

Any recent reports on this property?

Is there a fee to use the pool? How about a fee to use the beach?

Need advice.....

Is this property really worth 300 euros per night???

My friend is so adamant of going to monte carlo end of april and i was checking the only starwood property here...But im quite shocked on the price tag considering it's only rated as 4 stars (but spg cat 6).

He wouldnt want to stay in LM Nice though it's only a few kms away and insists that monte carlo night life and the clubs/bars are so much better and exciting in MC...

But im still shocked (for days now) with the price tag...i mean it's not hotel imperial wien nor W Opera...

So should i just bite the bullet as 300 euros/night is the going rate at this property anyways or should i find a cheaper property that's not starwood related?

After checking tripadvisor photos and reading reviews at several sites....I still cant believe theyre charging 300 euros/night on low season...

Any helpful advices on what to do would greatly be appreciated

If nightlife is your goal, take a second look at the location of the LM Monaco. Monaco is not that large, but this hotel is some distance from the casino which is where I presume the clubs are clustered around.

We stayed in upgraded rooms on points as a Plat and those rooms were easily worth 300 Euros plus. The sea view from the hotel is beautiful, the private beach is very nice, it just doesn't have the St. Regis type service level and finish. Based on prices in comparable European locations Paris, Cannes, Rome etc.. 300 Euros is fair enough. Monaco is an expensive destination. There may be an event on that date driving up prices.

SPG category is driven by average rate paid, not by stars. Cat 6 means the hotel's average rate is on par with other cat 6 properties. €300 is a pretty good rate for this property. The rate can go substantially higher.
