I've noticed mixed reports on lounge charges for plats. Is there a fee for beer/wine etc ?

It was free when I was there in May, but limited selection. I just wish they had local beers instead of bud light.

We were there last month. Plats have complimentary access but they charged $30 per person for alcohol.

Great Platinum Recognition

We had a great 13 night stay at the Sheraton Maui over Christmas and New Years. We hoped for and received an amazing upgrade to a Deluxe Ocean Front room in building six even though 11 of our nights were on points, and the hotel was sold out a few nights. My in laws joined us for the last 7 nights and on request to be near our room, they were upgraded as well to building six.

Access to building six is really not that complicated or as long as some of the reviews make it sound. It is no more than a 5 min walk including taking the elevator. If you take two flights of stairs it is even faster. You come out at the Mai Tai bar and pool and black rock. The views are amazing. We spent hours watching whales and turtles on our lanai. Take binoculars. The kids decided against a whale watching trip, they said they had seen enough! Also, parking is so convenient if you have a car as you can park right out front.

We of course chose breakfast as our platinum benefit which was amazing. We also received 20% off the price of the kids breakfast. We also had breakfast in the Lounge some days but it did get a bit boring. Some mornings we grabbed coffee and bagel from the lounge and had breakfast on our lanai so we could whale watch. For a family of four, this was a very good perk. We only went to happy hour a few days as it was nothing really special but we did grab some snacks to have in the room. Alcohol is not included.

We received platinum wrist bands to wear that allowed unlimited towels. We only saw maybe 4 other families with the platinum wrist bands which I thought was surprising. Everyone else needed paper wrist bands that they gave out everyday.

When we checked into our room, the hotel had left two beach chairs, a boggy board, and swim noodles for us to use. I asked the bellman if they leave these for everyone, he said he had never seen that before! When I completed the Platinum registration on line I stated we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary. There was a sheraton beach mat and a letter offering congratulations! Great welcome!

We went for brunch Christmas morning and although there were many families waiting to be seated the hostess said, "Oh you're platinum, you will be seated next".

Lastly, we stumbled upon a laundry room on floor 7 in building 4. It just opened a week ago.

We loved this hotel and the special attention we received during their busiest week of the year. Awesome SPG property.

Wow, what a wonderful stay! I'm glad everything worked out so well.

We, too, had a great time at this property and were similarly upgraded to a Deluxe Ocean Front Room in building six (also on points, but only for five nights). I agree with you - it's really not that hard getting around from building 6 and the parking out front is convenient.

We finished a 5 night stay at the end of January.
Want to thank everyone for reporting the changes to the platinum benefits they are giving as this was not handled all that great by the front desk on check-in. Minor blip to a great stay.

SNAs were declined.
I mentioned to FD that I had attempted to use SNAs and they were declined. Still asked FD "Any chance for an upgrade even though my SNAs failed?"
FD was able to upgrade me to a suite with a different bed type but I would have to touch base with SPG regarding applying the SNAs???? (They were deposited back into my account w/o issue or action on my part)

I chose breakfast as the platinum perk. (500 points were deposited after the stay as well). It rained on one of the days and the restaurant was very busy at breakfast. We skipped the 20-30 minute wait. It was a touch embarrassing but I was very happy not to have to wait more than a 2-3 minutes.
Showed my wife the "I am a Diamond Guest" youtube video prior to the trip and we would use this refrain as a private joke during the stay.

No mention of lounge access at check-in. I was able to get access cards the next day without issue. I echo the comments of others already made. The offerings are not very plentiful and not worth a special trip. Useful for a larger family but pales in selection to the buffet.

No platinum bracelet for towels given. After the room upgrade, I didn't want to hassle with this. They gave me towel cards instead.

Parking benefits explained.

Very pleased with the property and the stay!

2 nights at the Sheraton preceded by one night at the Westin.
No waiver of resort fees. No alternative amenity offered. Got a suite at the Sheraton after asking. Lounge was provided right away and was told hispeed internet is my alternative amenity. shoukd I do anything about this?
Dyanne the lounge attendent was great...especially the way she handled people who did not have access.

Staying at this resort now. I was here last year and I like this resort. They have made a few changes such as the hot dog place, games out on the grass, etc. It seems a bit more family friendly which is nice since I'm here with family.

I am gold and asked about paid upgrades at check-in and was able to pay for an upgrade to a deluxe ocean view room in building 2 w/ lounge access. Yeah, I know that building 2 isn't the most convenient but I stayed here last year and I liked it because of its proximity to the parking garage. I also felt that walking over to the pool wasn't too bad. The lounge is a bit of a trek but I don't mind it so much. I checked in about an hour earlier than check-in time and they were able to accommodate me so that was nice.

The room is nice with a decent view of the ocean. The ocean isn't right up in your face but it's fine. I stayed at the Andaz Maui last week and I actually like this room much more since it's bigger, etc. I also feel more comfortable here because the resort itself is spread out. I was impressed with Andaz last year so I wanted to try it out this year but I think in the future, I'll just stick to the SPG properties. We have friends at the Westin so we may head over there as well just to pay them a visit and check out the pools.

Service has been good. I was also asked to choose between 250 points and high speed internet as my gold amenity and I chose the faster internet. I thought I get that anyway as gold but whatever...

I asked about a microwave and they do have some available for a one time cost. It was a little more than I wanted to spend so I passed. It's nice to know that there is the option though.

I'm staying on an award stay (booked last year before the point increase).

Was the reservation made through the web site or via the app? If so, would you mind sending me the confirmation number via PM? TIA.

Sent PM to Starwood Lurker for the internet / amenity point thing.

I just got home from this stay. A few more notes:

1) I booked this stay last year before the points went up so I got a pretty good deal of 5 nights for 48k points (12k/night with 5th night free). I believe this is 16k/night now so the same stay would cost 80k points so almost a 50% discount.

2) I have been to this property twice now and both times I tried a bit of negotiation with the front desk staff to get a room upgrade. Both times I was given a room upgrade to a deluxe ocean view room in building 2 (the one closest to the parking structure) as well as lounge access for breakfast and evening snacks. Both times I opted to do this for a fee and I felt that it was worth it. I was satisfied with the size of the room although I'm not sure how much bigger (if any) my room actually was. It was a good size but didn't seem any bigger than normal. I am SPG gold so didn't really expect much. The lounge was nice with a cool person staffing the lounge (Dyanne (sp?)) and drinks in the evening was free (even alcoholic drinks like beer, wine, etc.).

3) I don't know what the rooms are like in other buildings since I have only stayed in building 2. The other buildings seem nicer but maybe it's just the grass looking greener on the other side.

4) They called me on the first day to get my "free gift" by stopping by the timeshare desk. I didn't go last year and didn't bother to go this year. I believe that the gift is a tote bag but didn't want the hassle of having to say no over and over again as they try to convince me to sit through a timeshare presentation.

5) Towel service is a bit of a pain with the cards. Last year it wasn't enforced so I was able to just ask for as many towels as I wanted but this year it was pretty strictly enforced. The chairs are fine but much more comfortable if you put a towel under you as well as use one as a blanket to cover yourself from the sun a bit.

6) Overall service was good. There were a few days where there was no food service at the pool which was a little annoying but oh well.

7) The hot dog stand is pretty good. I got the chicago hot dog and it kind of reminded me of Portillo's.

8) The luau looks ok. On Friday it rained so they started it outside but moved everyone inside.

I've tried searching a couple ways but can't seem to find if this hotel has an adult-only pool? I figured it would, since it's owned by the same group that owns Sheraton Waikiki and they have a GREAT adult-only pool, but I don't see any mention of it on this thread.

The only thing I could find was on the resort fee page it says "Adult Pool Floats" are included.

Can someone please clarify?

Can anyone post SNA successes at this property? Wife and I are staying late Sept, and am trying to gage my chances.

If this would be the general rule at this lounge than you pay for a glass of wine or just a bottle of beer inflated US $ 30 ?!
