Westin Camino Real - Guatemala City [Master Thread]
On my way back from GUA and a 4night stay @ the Camino Real Westin in Guatemala. Must admit it was a better experience than I had thought or hoped for. Would not hesistate to stay there again given the polished nature of the hotel, the friendliness of the staff, very nice looking club floor and heavenly bed which seemed brand new. They also have a 24 hours casino which is actually not bad at all and pretty big. True dedicated Plat/VIP SPG only line made the check-out a breeze, and actually a person that would rush to you even though two regular lines of people were waiting. Check-in is done at the club level room on the 9th floor which as i mentioned is a very nice looking room. I sat down and was offered a drink (vodka I replied) while the check-in papers wre sorted out. Upgraded to a junior and was promptly taken to my room. Definitely reccomend and well done to the folks in GUA and SPG for keeping them up to par with standards which at times are nowhere to be found @ Westins in the states. ^

I have noticed that there is ZERO availabilty for any dates next year at the Westin Camino Real, anyone know what's going on. This is a fantastic hotel for Guatemalan standards, I stay there at least two weeks every year and have yet to be dissapointed.

I'm just finishing up four days at this property. I'll be back for five more in about a week. Everything worked fine. The executive lounge was nice (no free alcohol these days) and open all day. Moderate breakfast in the morn, and light hors d'oeuvres in the evening (unless you are vegetarian). Good gym, open 5:30AM or 6:00AM until 10:00PM; a real hodge-podge of equipment, but mostly functional and adequate in number.
Unless you ask, you may not be told that breakfast buffet in restaurant in Plat benefit. Definitely better than the lounge. And good by ANY standards.
Staff was competent and recognized my after just a day. Concierge was useful. Location is very good...especially if you like Applebees.

I'm trying to book reservations on the Starwood page for the Westin in Guatemala City, and the rates look to be all over the map.
I am hoping that someone on this list more experienced wth Westin descriptions than I am can help me understand what they mean.
I called the Starwood reservations line and the person helping me said they only had one rate, a "deluxe room" for $120.
The web had these options:
Internet Only Rate - $115, "Luxurious Rooms,Armoire W/Satellite"
Internet Only Rate - $155, "Luxurious Rooms On Exclusive Floor Camino Real Tower"
Internet Only Rate - $155, "Luxurious Neo Classical Style,Personalized Svce ... Upgrd Amenities"
Internet Only Rate - $165, "Luxurious Rooms On Exclusive Floor Camino Real Tower"
Latin America Hot Rate - $160, "Luxurious Rooms On Exclusive Floor Camino Real Tower"
Corporate Rate - $209, "Luxurious Rooms On Exclusive Floor Camino Real Tower"
Rack Rate - $260, "Luxurious Rooms On Exclusive Floor Camino Real Tower"
Any ideas as to the differences between the rooms, especially the Internet rates?
Thanks in advance.

My husband and I recently returned from the Camino Real. Rooms were very nice and the front desk staff helpful. We found the Concierge service to be terrible though. We spoke with someone in the evening about restaurants and then the following morning about the status of a delayed flight. Both were either completely useless or gave us misinformation. Should I write to the GM or the headquarters and let them know? I'm relatively new to *wood so I don't know how people generally recommend handling these issues so thanks in advance.

I've found that this is one of those hotels where you'll never get your starwood points unless you fill out a missing credits form EVERY SINGLE TIME.
If you stay at this Westin, do be sure to keep a copy of your bill so you can get those points later.

Doesn't this hotel offer an airport shuttle? Does it operate on a regular schedule or do you have to call it?
Any special treatment for SPG Golds (I have had a few properties upgrade me as a Gold...boy, do I sure miss Plat club level upgrades)?

Ended up booking club level. No free Internet, no free lounge drinks (alcoholic comes with a charge as does bottled water in the lounge), and no in-room bottled water makes me wonder what exactly is the benefit of this floor besides light breakfast and evening snacks.

Safest way to hotel from airport?
Anyone stayed here recently (within the last year or so)?
Arriving in 2 weeks and would like to know if neighborhood is safe, and more importantly if airport shuttle service is reliable or is it safer to take a private car hire booked from hotel?
Also, still no complimentary bottled water for plats in room & lounge?
Thnaks!

Stayed here in April of this year. Airport shuttle service was reliable and waiting right outside baggage claim. The neighborhood felt quite safe to us and we had no problems walking around (a limited radius) at night...there are some restaurants/bars nearby which were tourist-friendly. I think we received complimentary bottled water in the room...but I dont recall for sure. We were pleased with the level of service overall. The location was also convenient for picking up a rental car nearby for our drive to Atitlan.
Forgot to ask, do i need to make a reservation for shutte service or is there a booth where i can directly go to by baggage claim area?
Cheers
