I actually received 37,500 miles which means SPG gave me the 25% bonus on all miles transfered. From reading SPG T&Cs I didn't realize that would happen.
Has anyone else experienced this, because I remember asking SPG and they said if I transferred more than 20k, I would not get 25% bonus on that. I would simply get a 5k bonus on each chunk of 20k. Thanks.

Per spg.com, you can transfer up to 99,999 Starpoints to American AAdvantage on a 1:1 basis. see link

Two questions:

1. Is the 99,999 limit per transaction i.e., could you do more than one transfer?

2. If you transferred 99,999 do you get shortchanged a 5,000 bonus since the last increment is only 19,999? (Would the total transfer be 124,999 or 119,999?)

1. Yes, but on different days (i.e., I think the limit is daily).

2. Yes, you do get shortchanged the last 5000-mile bonus. It seems that the maximum you might want to transfer daily to take advantage of the 5000-mile bonus on every 20,000 Starpoint is 80,000.

Thanks honu, wouldn't want to miss out on that bonus.

In post 14, Illini_Fan got 25% bonus on all points, not just on 20k blocks. Are you saying SPG has fixed this? Or are you just going by the stated policy?

99,999 is the daily limit set by most airlines. If you want to get more than that over to AA, you would have to make more than one transfer and they would have to be made 24+ hours apart.

2. If you transferred 99,999 do you get shortchanged a 5,000 bonus since the last increment is only 19,999? (Would the total transfer be 124,999 or 119,999?)
No, you don't get short-changed, but if you transfer that many points without taking the 5,000 for every 20K you transfer into account, you are going to exceed the daily transfer limit and the transfer will be rejected.

If it were me, I would transfer just 60,000. That way, when we add an additional 15,000 to make it a total of 75,000, you take full advantage of the bonus with the maximum number of points transferred under the cap.

Best regards,

William

Transfwring Points to AA miles

I tried to transfer 20000 points to my wifes aa ff account. They have not showed up in her account. I did a searchj(should have done that first!) and it would appear that the way to transfer is to first transfer the points to my wife's spg account. If that is correct then I need to find out how to get the points back in my account. Any help would be much appreciated!

Call the Customer Contact Center and see if they can void your transfer. If they can't, then ask them what the next step to take is.

Transferring SPG to AA but not my AA account

I know that SPG->AA transfers have to be between accounts with the same name.

I need to transfer 20k to my daughter's AAdv account. Can this be done (ie do they check)? Or should I open a SPG account for my daughter, do an SPG household transfer to her SPG account and then transfer from her SPG to her AAdv account?

alect,

I JUST went through this. I nearly lost a very hard-to-get award trip for my girlfriend and I because an SPG agent had told me I could transfer 50K points to my girlfriend's AA account - a week and a half went by and I panicked. After getting the right people at AA and SPG on the phone, I had to arrange for a rush transfer, which cost an extra 3K points I think.

Basically - you need to open a starpoints account for her. This can be done online quickly. Then call SPG, and they will move X number of points from your account to her account for free immediately, so long as the address on her SPG account matches yours. Then you can ask them to move the points from her SPG account to her AA account. If you are in a hurry, they will do one-day transfer for an extra 3K (I think).

You can use webflyer dot com for exchanging miles/points, but I think you will see the value is really poor for this conversion.
