I've checked this thread here and there, read a few posts in detail, and get the "gist" of it.

Found a SET code online...substantial savings at St. Regis NYC, and would like to use it (about $100 less than least expensive room).

Bad idea? I obviously don't work at said biz/univ/corp...

For the record, I do have my ABA SET code, but it's not that substantial...

A lot of desk agents at these higher end hotels often know asking for these credentials can often be insulting to the guest. At the Ritz hotels I never even get asked for my ID. Just state my name and room key is mine. I would go for it. Little.risk

Newbie question re Sheraton Hiroshima

Good Evening Folks,

Can I please put a question to all you experts here regarding SPG and Sheraton re room prices and codes.

My wife and I are going to Japan in the fall and would like to spend a few days at the new Sheraton in Hiroshima.

Ideally we are looking for a king room with breakfast.

The 14 day advance purchase room price is 14,110 yen for 1 or 2 persons..

Same room with breakfast is 15,288 for one person, 22,474 for two.

Does this make any sense? That would make the breakfast plan ridiculously expensive for two!

Anyone here had any experience with Hiroshima?

$100 off the lowest rates at SR...almost worth gambling!

$505 vs $595...

Tempting

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence, Sweetvibes.

I have been asked for my ID in the past. Not often, but it does happen.

Have you checked the StR hotel offers page to see if you can get a similarly low rate?

Oftentimes the best rates are posted there and are not shown as BAR.

Yes great point. more often than not these rates can be lower (and usually non-refundable) but then no sweat beads rolling down your face during check-in.

If using a set code, it may also help to enter the company name you are using in your profile so it shows up on your bill. (For desk agents this can be more convincing)

My ABA Bar rate is $536 verses the "other" SET rate I found brought the SR down to $505.

I'll go w/ the ABA rate, pay $30 more, and not worry about it.

Thanks for the tip on searching hotel specific websites. Didn't help this time, but I'll be sure to use that method in the future.

Not sure how their coding works. However, Japan have different regulations than US or Canada. If I recall correctly, the hotel tax is per person (not per room).

My former employer has a fantastic rate with SPG. I know the corporate rate and still got a few business cards; although, I don't have my old work ID.

The discount is ~60% off

Do y'all think business cards are sufficient?

If you're willing to commit fraud for a few bucks, sure.

Called starwood to book a room with points because the option online said to call to book with points.

Rep said points option wasn't available. She said there were discounts available for certain groups and asked if I was a part of any. I said no. She keeps trying and tells me she got a rate for 170/night (website was showing 449).

I said great, how did you manage that? She said she just tried a bunch of codes until one worked. Later, I check my reservation online, and it says

Rate Description: Lincoln Financial
SET or Corporate Account Number: <BLANK>

So my question is, did she use a SET code? Will I have to sweat the check in? Is it worth the risk, considering this area will be pretty much booked that weekend? Thanks

I think she did. When I enter my numerical code, it often changes it to [NAME OF MY COMPANY] on the website during booking.
