Yes, they have a tram service (to take people from hotel to beach) and beach service (chair, towel and all). They also have a restaurant at the beach.

Restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. And it's fun to watch folks walk down from the Ritz hoping to eat there get turned away because "we're a private restaurant"

And that private restaurant is really good, not only the food, but the friendly service and the beautiful sunset beach view ^

While the resort is very nice, the beach is subpar. If you are specifically going to enjoy the beach, I've heard that the Ritz actually takes care of their portion - and no tram necessary.
If you are going to the beach for a few hours trying to kill time, could be okay.
edit - my experience at the beach restaurant that it had an excellent water view, but the food left a ton to be desired. Food at the resort was way better.

Stay here a few years back and loved it. Would like to take the family for a 4-5 night stay late summer (Aug/Sep). I'd like to use C&P but this never appears to be an option on the SPG site. Does anyone know if this property ever offers C&P rates?

Have you tried using the Browse Dates/Rates function at spg.com and narrowing the search just to Cash & Points?

I'd be interested in recent feedback about this property, as I'm currently planning a stay either at the StR or the Montage Laguna Beach and I'm still a bit undecided between the two. Thanks.

I recently stayed at this property and had a great time. It's not perfect, but most if not all of the subpar aspects of the hotel are being addressed in the current remodeling. Here's a short clip of what it will look like once it's finished:

But how are they going to move it a mile closer to the beach?

This property > the Montage IMO. I find Montage to be such a sterile, stale brand....just my .02 cents.

That's a good one... I was told they're working on it...
I visited the Montage and I quite liked it (haven't seen the rooms though). It's very different than the StR and also quite different than the RC. I think all three properties have their pros and cons, in the end it's a question of personal preferences.

Interesting posts. I swore I'd stay at the Montage next time I was in the need for some OC, just because of the beach.
I still think I'll give it a shot so I can compare firsthand. I can't figure out how they decided to build this place NOT on the beach, and yet so upscale. Seems like it would have been worthy of a Sheraton or something else without a beach right there, but not a Reg.

Anyone see the Koch Brothers here with the candidates last week? Loved the reporters standing out front by the fountain telling us breathlessly about their efforts
