Per the thread

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/star...t-benefit.html

Full breakfast is included for Platinums. Whether the third person in the room affects that, I'm not sure but doubt it? The hotel is probably right (in that the rate does not include breakfast) but you get it as a Plat anyway.

Can anyone comment on the beach situation?

It seems like the hotel beach has small, white peddle stones. Are there any nice sand beaches nearby?

Thanks in advance!

Beach is a stone beach you best enter the water over a web. I found it nice enough. I didn't see any mentionable beach nearby

I believe that the town of Elounda a few kilometers away has a sandy beach in the village. Can't vouch for its cleanliness or quaintness.

Most beaches are directly at the street. Not sure about all public ones in Elounda. But the sand wouldn´t let me use it instead of the nicely located one at the resort. Here some pictures:

Ended up booking two rooms with cash and points instead. At checkin platinum benefits were graciously extended to both rooms, so breakfast for everybody!

But sadly no upgrade whatsoever.

Not surprising based on the time of year (high tourist season in Europe) and past experiences at this time of year by other Platinum members.

They seem to be available up to the point where the resort closes on October 31, 2017.

If you are looking past April 2018, it doesn't look like they have loaded any rates, so you might have to check back later.

Highly recommend Domes of Eloundra instead since it requires less points than the Blue Palace. They seem to treat elites (Golds and Plats) quite well as they upgrade these guests to their 2BR villas with a private pool if there's availability.

I am sure they do...but you might want to consider renting a car. Eastern Crete is pretty spectacular and driving is easy. There are some great sites to see and things to do.

Definitely rent a car! Otherwise it will get relative boring and you miss a lot. 1 hour drive is correct.
