Marriott brands to Starwood Equivilents?

Hi All,

I am a Marriott person so I am only familiar with their brands. I am looking for a posting or mapping of how the Marriott brands translate to Starwood brands. Is there such a thing?

Specifically, I was looking to see if there is a Residence Inn type brand in Starwood. I want to try to find a Starwood that has a one-bedroom type configuration in the Downtown Los Angeles area or surrounding region. I don't need a kitchen or free breakfast, if that helps.

Thanks!

You'd be looking for an Element, but unfortunately there aren't too many of them (yet)

Here's another "mapping" of Marriott and Starwood-legacy brands:

It's odd that Marriott Vacation Club is thrown into the same category as Marriott, Sheraton, and Delta hotels.

Bulgari is missing because Bulgari does not participate in Rewards (or SPG).

Westin is my favorite SPG brand have never stayed at an Edition hotel. Westin has a pretty good consistency among hotels, do Edition hotels? Things like scents in lobby, toiletries etc

Considering there are only three properties in the portfolio (I don't think Sanya is open yet), it shouldn't be hard...

I'm pretty sure there's a break-down/equivalent of the various SPG/MAR brands that was posted in the last month. I just can't member which thread it's in to post a link. I think Oxon Flyer posted it.

Cheers.

In addition to the small footprint, Edition is VERY chic & high-end...quite different from the Westin (which is a fave of mine too)

JW Marriott does not belong in the same category as ST Regis and Ritz Carlton. From my experience, a JW Marriott is nothing more than a larger Marriott that has been remodeled recently or is new.

While I don't think JWs are quite at the Ritz/StR level, IME they are (with some exceptions) a level above typical Marriotts, including domestic properties (eg: JW Indianapolis, JW Miami Marquis). Differentiators include lounges with better food that are open on weekends, better trained staff (eg: the two-handed credit card return at the front desk is apparently a brand standard), and typically higher end design elements. I'd put JW above SPG W on that brand list (again IME).
