Registration and Earning: Members must register for this offer online with a valid SPG® account number at spg.com/5000reasons by December 18, 2016, midnight Eastern Time (ET). Card Members who have registered for this offer are eligible to receive a one-time 5,000 Starpoint bonus for fifteen (15) or more consumed, eligible nights between October 18 and December 18, 2016 (the "promotion period").
Card Members must book and pay using any American Express® Credit or Charge Card. Bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible for this offer, but only eligible stays consumed during the promotion period will receive a one-time bonus. I'm told that as long as a member registers for the offer and completes the stay/nights within the offer period (and paid with a registered Amex card) the nights will count towards the promotion. The card used for payment does not need to match the reservation.

As per other promotions, rewards stays do not count towards the 15 nights necessary for this offer. Incidental expenses do not count as they are not an eligible paid night.

Yes, I am more than a little annoyed that due to the lack of notification, I will be forced to mattress run an extra night somewhere. I had a paid stay the night of Oct 17 and a reward stay night of Oct 18 which could have been easily reversed. I even asked the hotel on the morning of the 19th (after I read about the promo here) if they could change my stay from the previous night from points to revenue and they said they could not.
I wonder if anyone here got an email from SPG/Amex!

If I have one stay within the promotional period for 8 nights that I (already) paid for with a visa, but then I book and pay for a separate 7 night stay within the period with an Amex, would I meet the terms?
The terms refer to paying for "a stay" with an Amex and for staying for 15 nights, so I thought it would meet the terms, but then I read your comment above "As long as you register for the offer, any nights paid for with any registered Amex card during the promotion period will count towards the 15 nights."

* Complete 25 nights @ Hyatt for 75,000 bonus points
* See if I can get 15 in SPG
* If not, then stay at Hyatt to keep earning towards lifetime plat

I have to 3 rooms booked for 6 nights each for myself and my family (adult kids and parents) and I am paying for all rooms myself. Would that qualify since this equals 18 nights if I pay for it with my Amex card?

I have a stay in London checking in 16th for 3 nights, does the final night of the 18th count towards this or will only 2 nights count towards this promo?
